Preview: Wentworth Park Saturday

By Jeff Collerson
Archer Fly High has won just once in nine Wentworth Park appearances but two recent trials suggest the half-brother to the $1 million earner Tommy Shelby is ready to notch his second success there.

Archer Fly High has box three in Saturday night's Snicko's Last Lap Stakes, a 520m fifth grade, and trainer Peter Rodgers gives the dog a great chance.

"He might have only won one race at Wentworth Park but Archer Fly High is a fast dog, he is up there with the quickest I have trained,'' Rodgers said.

"Before he finished third from box eight at Wentworth Park on August 29 he clocked 23.75 in a post-to-post slip at Wentworth Park and not many break 24 seconds.

"When he drew box eight I gave him no chance so I was delighted with his third behind King Tide and Swift Challenge."

"Archer Fly High died on his run over the final 20m but had to work early and was chasing two good ones, King Tide and Swift Challenge, and they ran home in 11.63.

"After that race I took Archer Fly High to Gosford and in a slip there he recorded 24.75, which is flying.

"Really good greyhounds only clock 25 seconds flat.

"Archer Fly High needs to be drawn near the rails which is why I give him a great chance from box three on Saturday.''

Swift Challenge, who finished ahead of Archer Fly High last week, can lead all the way in Saturday night's 520m Ladbrokes Bet Ticker Final.

Trainer Jay OPETAIA said: "Swift Challenge has not been beginning as well as he can but has still been making the pace and clocking 5.40-odd to the first mark.

"He has a great draw in box two on Saturday because his kennelmate Bomb Roberta, in box one, does not have much early pace so Swift Challenge should have no trouble finding the rail.''

Agland Luai has not raced since May 14 but is going "as well as ever" according to trainer Jay OPETAIA as the dog returns to the track in Saturday night's Ladbrokes Sports Bar Masters, a 520m M2 & M3 event.

A winner of 11 Wentworth Park races with a blistering personal best 520m time of 29.46, Agland Luai hasĀ  box four but faces stern opposition from Lady Divine (box six) and Embrace (box seven).

"Agland Luai became eligible for Masters races in July but if his trials are anything to go by he is as good as ever,'' OPETAIA said.

"In his first hit-out for 12 weeks he clocked 18.20 over 320m at Richmond and in his latest trial, at Wentworth Park, he clocked a smart 24.01 in a post-to-post hand-slip.''

Agland Luai will need some luck though as Lady Divine has been beginning brilliantly and "crashing" to the rails in the charge to the first turn.

She made the pace after posting a flying first split of 5.38 when beaten narrowly in 29.75 by Rebel Ethics in a Masters race at Wentworth Park last Saturday night.

Lady Divine had box two in that race and hugged the rails, so she should give Group 1 winner Embrace, another newcomer to Masters class who is well suited drawn wide, a clear run to the first corner.

The best value of the night could be Trunkey Mink, whose two Wentworth Park wins make her the most successful at headquarters in Saturday's Terry's Final Fight Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

Trunkey Mink has been facing tougher opposition and had no luck after being checked early when fifth to King Tide in a much harder assignment at Wentworth Park on August 29.
