Team Effort: Bush Lands Six Winner Gunnedah Haul

By David Brasch
Jamie Bush headed off to Gunnedah's Wednesday race meeting confident of a winning double at least from the nine starters he had.

He came home with a remarkable six winners, Sunny Blue, Jock, Franky Bear, Mick The Master, BUDDY Mac and Joe Cargo.

"I thought Franky Bear would win and Joe Cargo was well graded," said Jamie, 40. "But, I also gave the others a strong chance. It was no surprise they won."

The Jamie Bush kennel has been at the peak of form at Gunnedah in July, winning four races on July 3, a double on July 10, four again on July 17 and another four on July 24.

"It's been a fantastic ride of late, and especially because it is a real family thing," he said today. "My daughter Tahni (15) and son Kade (13) help with all the work around the place, my mate Tyler Flemming is always on hand to help. And my mate Beau Hanson and his son Rory (13) are all part of the success. In fact, Rory picks out all the pups we buy, Beau rears most of them and does all the education. Beau's partner Melissa is a cousin."

The dogs are raced in the Tarukaro Syndicate, the first two letters of each of the kids names, Beau's daughter Ruby being the other member.

"Rory is fantastic at picking the pups," said Jamie. "All the dogs we have in the kennel have been bought by us at three or four months of age and Rory picked them out. He has an uncanny knack of picking the best of them."

Jamie is third-generation greyhound training following his parents and grandparents.

Jamie Bush with BUDDY Mac and Buddy's biggest fan, young Ava.

"We have a 12-acre property about 10 minutes from the Gunnedah racetrack," he said. "We've got a straight, kennel block, rearing yards, everything we need for the 14 dogs we have in work. No, there are no champions among them but they are all good, honest dogs."

Jamie and Beau have seven pups by Feral Franky, their first venture into breeding their own bloodlines.

"We are looking to breeding a few litters to have our own dogs rather than buy them," he said.

While country winners have been coming hard and fast, Jamie is the first to admit heading to city racing is much tougher despite the fact his first ever runner at Wentworth Park was a winner in Franky Bear which downed kennelmate Jeanie Cargo.

Jamie has six dogs in at Gunnedah on Monday and plans to have seven or eight in on Wednesday next week.

"I'm lucky," he said. "I get all the limelight, but it is a real team effort between Beau and his family and my family. All I've got to do is walk onto the track."
