Preview: Wentworth Park Thursday

Out Of Style, who made the early pace in the Ladbrokes Peter Mosman Opal final before finishing third to Tulsi Banner, returns to Wentworth Park in an easier 520m fifth grade on Thursday night.

After running down Blazing Raso to win her Opal heat in 29.81, Out Of Style was sent out as a $5 chance after drawing box one in the final on July 6.

She jumped in front but lost ground when she ran wide and collided with Au Contraire, then holding on tenaciously to take out the minor prizemoney.

On Thursday night Out Of Style has drawn box eight in the Ladbrokes Bet Ticker Stakes, and trainer Chris Kedwell is happy with her outside position.

"She likes it out there,'' Kedwell said.

"On the corners Out Of Style tends to run in line with the lure so she is not a mad railer.

"At her only start since the Opal final Out Of Style finished fourth at Gosford on July 23 but that run can be forgotten.

"That was the first time she had been out of those starting boxes so her run was okay.

"Although she has not raced at Wentworth Park for nearly a month, Out Of Style is going as well as when she contested the Peter Mosman Opal series.''

On Report led to the turn when second, as a $1.85 favourite, at his Wentworth Park debut on June 14, but has the pace to atone in Thursday's Ladbrokes Sports Bar 1-2 Wins Stakes, 520m.

Since finishing second at Wentworth Park On Report has won twice over 520m at Richmond, posting the fastest time of the night on each occasion.

Although the dog only clocked 30.23 in his Wentworth Park defeat, trainer Jason Magri said: "He trialled 29.90 at Wenty before he raced there.

"On Report is trialling really well again now and I did push him along a bit early, he is only a baby, still not quite 20 months old.''

Until the time was semaphored trainer Darren Sultana was disappointed with Fernando Vella's narrow win over 515m at Gosford on July 16.

Fernando Vella, who had won in a slick 29.81 at Wentworth Park on June 28, disputed the early lead with Ricky Zoom and had only a neck to spare over that greyhound at the finish.

"My dog didn't look that impressive at Gosford but when the time went up as 29.40 I was very pleased,'' Darren Sultana said.

Former champion Wow's track record stands at 28.88 and Fernando Vella's figures were clearly the fastest time of the night.

Princess Killara, who has clocked 29.77 at Wentworth Park, recorded 29.93 winning at the same Gosford meeting.

On Thursday Fernando Vella has box four in the Sponsor a Race @ Wenty 520m fifth grade, but Sultana believes he can overcome his awkward draw providing he "nails" the start.

Sultana said: "Fernando Vella can be a bit hit or miss at box rise so from box four he needs to step away smartly.

"He can't afford to miss the kick because this is a pretty strong fifth grade.''

Screeching had box one when he scored his first Wentworth Park win on July 11 but trainer Joe McFadyen is happy with his dog's box eight draw in Thursday's Ladbrokes Odds Surge Stakes, a 520m fourth and fifth grade.

When Screeching came from third early to win in 30.10 at Wentworth Park he was inclined to go around his rivals rather than attempting to rail underneath them.

"Box eight should give him a chance to get across safely on Thursday,'' McFadyen said.

"All Screeching needs is some clear air early.

"If he gets that he should find himself up near the front in the middle stages and get a chance to produce his strong finish.

"Screeching gets to the line so strongly at the end of 520m I believe he has the makings of a good middle-distance performer.''
