Food Fiddling Helps Archie

By Jeff Collerson
A change of diet put Nangar Archie back into the winner's circle at Nowra on Monday at the Caitlyn Brewer-trained dog's first start for two months.

Nangar Archie, who becomes eligible for masters races in less than two months, began brilliantly and led all the way to win a 365m sprint in a blistering 20.41.

It was Nangar Archie's 14th win and took his earnings over the $70,000 mark.

Trainer Caitlyn Brewer's husband Ricky said: "He lost form a couple of months ago and it took us a while to figure out the reason.

"It turns out that Nangar Archie's body wasn't handling the amount of protein in his diet so we fiddled around with his food and he has come good again.

"In his previous few runs before his spell he was tying up at the end of 520m so there had to be something amiss.

"We know he is a genuine 29.75 dog at Wenty but he wasn't reproducing that sort of form.

"Now he is going strongly into the catching pen, and barking in the process, so he is a different dog.

"When Nangar Archie won at Nowra on Monday he ran home in under 12 seconds at that is pretty well unheard of.;

"Hopefully he will measure up when the Masters Meteor series comes up at WP in October.''

David Smith, among Wentworth Park's most successful trainers over the past five years, admits he has been having a lean trot at headquarters but he has been blitzing them at Bulli in recent weeks.

On July 5 the Smith-trained quartet Elsie's Ethics, Maestro Ethics and Me Me Celebrity won over 340m while Swift Ethics gave him four winners with success over 400m.

Last Tuesday Smith was at it again, training another four winners, this time with Maestro Ethics over 340m, Me Me Celebrity in a flying 22.33 over 400m, Glitzy Ethics scoring over 472m and Sublime Ethics successful in a 590m event.

"Of my current team of 20 I think only Glitzy Ethics and Swift Ethics are likely to win over 520m at Wentworth Park,'' Smith conceded.

"Glitzy Ethics only clocked 26.62 winning at Bulli on Tuesday but she came from last so she may be my next Wentworth Park winner.

"Swift Ethics is promising, she has won three of her five starts, and while she is no super star she is probably capable of winning in town too.

"Sublime Ethics has talent but won't go around two bends tracks like Wenty.

"She was heavily backed at Bulli on Tuesday because she had trialled near record time over 400m there, she just loves that roomy track.
