Wentworth Park Preview

Zipping Duvall was beaten clearly by August Bob at Wentworth Park last Saturday night but clocked a flying 29.60 in the process and should only need a clear run to win there on Thursday.

The COURTNEY Barnes-trained dog has box five in heat five of the Ladbrokes 1-4 Wins Stakes and his personal best Wenty figures are .25 quicker than those of his nearest rival, Canya Believe It.

COURTNEY Barnes' mother-in-law, fellow trainer Minnie Finn said: "Zipping Duvall can't draw a box and plays up in the kennels but when he settles down he has the makings of a rerally good dog.''

Zipping Duvall's rivals on Thursday include last Thursday's slick 29.89 WP winner Big Town Mac, but his trainer Trevor Robinson is not confident due to his box seven draw.

"He had box one last week but he doesn't like being boxed wide, he will want to crash towards the rails,'' Robinson said.

"But he is fit and well and if he finds the fence he will be rocketing home.''

Robinson is more upbeat about the chances of Big Town Tilly, who has box one in heat three of the 1-4 Wins Stakes.

"She is no world beater but is ideally drawn and can probably just break 30 seconds at Wenty,'' Robinson said.

"Big Town Tilly clocked 30.35 when she led before finishing second at her first WP race last week but had trialled 30.21 there and is improving.

"I also have Big Town Skye in box three in heat four but she is about a length slower than Big Town Tilly.''

Trainer Minnie Finn has two of the seven runners in Thursday's third and fourth grade race but plumps for Great Flash as her better chance.

"Great Flash is well boxed out wide in six and while Poco Rico is suited in box two, he is not as quick as Great Flash,'' Finn said.

Finn's in-form Zipping Kerr will be chasing her fourth WP win from her past five appearances at headquarters when she exits box two in Thursday's Ladbrokes Sports Bar fifth grade.

Zipping Kerr's three recent wins have been from boxes six, seven and eight and Finn said: "She does  go better from out wide.

"I thought she was going to be a top notcher before she started racing but after being disappointing in a few races the penny has dropped and she is going great now.''

Canya Smoke Them has won nine races at WP and is by far the best-performed Wenty dog in Thursday's 520m fourth and fifth grade but Andy Lord, whose wife Jodie trains the dog, concedes: "He has probably seen better days.

"But Canya Smoke Them is still trialling reasonably well and he is nicely placed in box one because he has a couple of wide runners drawn outside him.''

Canya Smoke Them's kennelmate King Tide has box six in Thursday's Ladboke It! one win fifth grade but Andy Lord would have preferred him drawn nearer the rails.

"I was happy with his second, from box four, at his first WP start last Thursday but on his form at Nowra over 520m, where he won recently, he would be better off on the fence,'' Andy Lord said.

Thursday's best bets should be the Peter Sims-trained Cherry Rose, who has box one in heat two of the 1-4 Wins fifth grade, and Lorraine Jacky, who has drawn four in heat four of the same series.

Cherry Rose went out a $1.70 favourite at her WP debut last Thursday on the strength of a fast trial there and outstanding Temora form but was desperately unlucky when third, from box three.

Lorraine Jacky is awkwardly drawn but is usually clever in a field and the Jack Smith-trained bitch's quickest WP time of 29.65, posted from box five, is the equivalent of three lengths faster than the personal best of her nearest opponent, GO JIMMY.
