Wentworth Park Saturday Preview

By Jeff Collerson
Rinsed The Lot has been the talk of the town since notching his sixth win in as many starts in last week's Ladbrokes Vic Peters Classic but now another exciting speed machine, Power And Glory, returns at Wentworth Park on Saturday night.

Power And Glory, who has not raced for three months, has box three in the Ladbrokes Bet Ticker Stakes, a fifth grade for greyhounds with one to four wins.

The Ken Burnett-trained dog has had seven starts for four wins and three placings and boasts a sensational personal best Wentworth Park time of 29.28.

Although he is resuming from a spell, Power And Glory has been given a solid preparation for Saturday night's race and is ready to win first-up.

"He recently clocked 23.77 in a post-to-post slip at Wentworth Park and that is flying,'' Ken Burnett said.

"I think Power And Glory will win although Zeus Keeping, who has box one, won't be easy to beat.''

Zeus Keeping is prepared at Dubbo by Charmaine Roberts, who is enjoying her most successful year.

Roberts' partner, Dubbo club president Shayne Stiff, said: "We think Zeus Keeping is well suited but will be happy if he can run second to Ken Burnett's good dog.

"Charmaine particularly likes the chances of Cindy Keeping, who has box one in the Ladbrokes Communities Stakes.

"Cindy Keeping has been freshened up since finishing fifth in a Peter Mosman Opal heat on June 29 and is perfectly drawn.

"We also expect a big race from Candice Keeping who has box seven in the NSW GBOTA Welcome Stakes.

"She was a finalist in last week's Peter Mosman Opal and we like her drawn out in box seven on Saturday.''

Chuck Keeping, another from the Roberts kennel, is also suitably placed in box one in Saturday's @wentworthparkgreyhounds Stakes, another one to four wins fifth grade.

Chuck Keeping had no luck when third at his Wentworth Park debut on July 4.

Although beaten seven lengths by the winner, Zipping Duvall, Chuck Keeping would have gone close to winning had he not been checked when angling for a rails run, while in second spot, leaving the back straight.

Woolgoolga Gal, who has been starring at Richmond in recent weeks, makes her WP debut in Saturday night's Ladbrokes Blackbook Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

Although Woolgoolga Gal has won three races in the best time of the night over 520m at Richmond since mid-May, trainer Michael Galea believes she could have her work cut out on Saturday.

"Considering this is her first race at Wentworth Park she has found herself in a tough fifth grade, and in box five as well,'' Galea said.

"I trialled her at Wentworth Park recently but her early sections were only 5.52 and 14.08 and while she ran home in 11.79 her overall time was a disappointing 30.01.

"If this race was at Richmond, where she can run near record times like 29.30 and 29.40 I would rate her a good thing, but she may need a few races at Wenty to produce her best form.''

Saturday's 720m race, the fourth and fifth grade Sponsor A Race @ Wenty Stakes, marks the return to Wentworth Park of veteran stayer Zipping Whiskey.

The rising four-year-old has not raced since finishing third over 595m at Sandown early last month but trainer Michael Hardman said the veteran is trialling well.

"I gave him a post-to-post at Dapto recently and Zipping Whiskey went as good as he used to go as a youngster,'' Hardman said.

"If he doesn't get stopped in his tracks when he is making his run on Saturday night I expect him to be thereabouts at the finish.''
