Richmond Wednesday Preview

Marlee Star bungled the start before beating all but the placegetters in a semi-final of the recent GRNSW Thunderbolt and should only need to begin cleanly to win on Wednesday night at Richmond.

She was sent out a $2.80 favourite from box five against some of the quickest speedsters in the land at Grafton on June 16 but will tackle fourth and fifth grade rivals when she exits box one in the 401m Wick Coffee Stakes.

The Peter Lagogiane-trained bitch has won eight of 17 starts and from box one boasts the impressive tally of two wins and two placings from four appearances.

Lagogiane also has strong claims in the 520m Ladbrokes Blackbook Mixed Stakes with last start winner More Shots, in box four.

But Big Town Mac, who defeated More Shots two starts back, could prove the nemesis again.

Big Town Mac who had box two when he ran down More Shots at Richmond on June 12, has the same draw on Wednesday night.

Since that win Big Town Mac has come from last and finished fourth at Richmond but his trainer Trevor Robinson is happy seeing him back to an inside box this week.

"He had box seven last week and as soon as the boxes opened Big Town Mac slammed into another dog as he was trying to reach the rails,'' Robinson said.

"More Shots will be hard to beat again but Big Town Mac has a near perfect draw and will be doing his best work at the finish''.

While none of the dogs in this race have so far broken 30sec at Richmond, Trevor Robinson said: "I think Big Town Mac is capable of running 29.80 with a clear run.''

Wallacia Mist was beaten in a photo finish by Exclusive Wave in 36.11 in her heat but trainer Luke Brown believes she can still take out Wednesday night's $8000 to the winner GRNSW Middle Distance Series Final, 622m.

Last week Wallacia Mist was last to leave the boxes but after working her way through the field and hitting the front on the home turn, she was caught on the line by the Vic Sultana-trained Exclusive Wave.

"Wallacia Mist cost herself too much by missing the kick so badly last week, she had to do so much to reach the lead,'' Luke Brown said.

"What made it even harder for her was that repair work had been done on the track a few days before the race and after rain the going was very heavy on the rails where she was running.

"If she jumps well on Wednesday Wallacia Mist should be hard to beat, and I have done some box work with her since the heats.

"But Wallacia Mist is so crazy to get going that she can go either way once she is put into the boxes.''

Fastest heat winner Kangaroo Jack, who qualified in 35.74, looks the obvious danger but he has drawn awkwardly in box five.

Ben Izzard bought Cosmo Model from leading trainers Jodie and Andy Lord after a short course maiden win at Goulburn in January and she has been placed in three of four starts for her new owner-trainer.

Cosmo Model was runner-up from box eight at Richmond last week and has the same draw in Wednesday night's 520m Mixed Stakes.

"I would have preferred to see her drawn on the rails but she did handle the outside box well last week so hopefully she can do it again,'' Izzard said.

Cosmo Model is valuable as a potential brood bitch because she is a daughter of Cruiser Model, who won a dozen races, and a grand-daughter of the top notcher Champion Model, winner of 25 from 55 starts.
