Just a week or so ago, veteran Grafton trainer Chris Field had his entire kennel up for sale, but come Tuesday night he was setting what locals believe could be a record training feat.
Chris, 73, took seven of his Hooked On Scotch-Magical Mia litter to Grafton on Tuesday and six of them won.
The other finished second to its litter and kennelmate.
Chris' kennel star and top flight prospect Field Day won by eight lengths in a 450m 5th Grade in a flying 25.29 at odds of $1.15.
His other winners were:
Pat's Boy in a 1-3 Win (450m) in 25.54 by four lengths at $1.95
Hear The Crow in a 5th Grade (350m) in a flying 19.99 by three lengths at $3.90
Tide In in a 5th Grade (350m) in 20.02 by two lengths at $2.15. Tide In downed kennel and littermate Dad's Dream.
Knee Deep in a 5th Grade (350m) in 20.19 by two and a half lengths at $2.50
Dad's Last Run in a 5th Grade (350m) in 20.31 by a length at $1.35
Chris had been keen to do some travelling and with a kennel full of dogs he was looking at putting off those wishes for some time.
That's the reason he let it be known the entire kennel package was for sale.
He had nibbles, most keen to get Field Day into their kennel, but in the end Chris has decided to press on.
Tuesday night's six winners and a second from seven starters at Grafton is the result.
"I couldn't believe it," said Chris today.
"I went to the track thinking Field Day would win, and gave Dad's Last Run and Tide In good chances. I reckoned I'd be happy if I got a couple of winners on the night.
"But after the first couple won, I thought to myself, this has to end soon."
It didn't.
Club president John Corrigan has been at Grafton for 42 years and he and veterans of the track searched long and hard through the records.
Northern Rivers legend, Brad Northfield, had held the record, winning five races with a Major Fox-Ferry Princess litter back in 1998.
"Chris has topped me," said Brad. "And there is no nicer bloke around. He deserves it."
Chris admitted he had his entire kennel for sale for $110,000 only a few weeks ago.
"Everyone wanted Field Day," said Chris.
"But, I was keen to buy a campervan and go visiting my children and grandkids over in WA, down at Bulli and in Scone.
"But, I've decided to keep the dogs now and keep going."
Of kennel star, Field Day, he plans to head to Wentworth Park for a couple of slips to test him for future 520m racing.
"I'm a little worried about him getting 520 metres," said Chris.
"The 450 metres takes a bit out of him and he tied up in the back legs on his way back after the race last night.
"He will eventually go to Victoria and depending on how he is going, he could go into the Grafton Cup coming up during the July carnival."
The Chris Field night landed $10,460 at Grafton and this followed the $10,000 he picked up for Masani Girl's win last week in the Beef Week Cup at Casino.
