Power And Glory To Continue

By Jeff Collerson
Power And Glory's sensational win at Dapto last Thursday was the most impressive maiden performance at the south coast track since Leg Speed's romp 14 months ago and he will be chasing a repeat performance at Bulli on Tuesday afternoon.

Trained by Ken Burnett, Power And Glory overcame a moderate getaway to take an early lead at Dapto before careering away to score by nearly 14 lengths in "group one" time of 29.60 for the 520m.

Leg Speed posted 29.62 in winning his Dapto maiden by 10 lengths on January 19 last year and has since won four races at Wentworth Park and been runner-up in the Muswellbrook Cup.

Power And Glory, who faces a similarly bright future, will exit box three in a 472m race at Bulli tomorrow and trainer Ken Burnett expects him to win again.

"In his first trial at Bulli, over 400m, Power And Glory clocked a flying 22.20 and he is even better suited over the 472m of Tuesday's race,'' Burnett said.

"I reared this dog and his litter brother Polaris Missile and when they were being educated Power And Glory's brother was much quicker.

"In their first short slip at Wenty Polaris Missile clocked 15.07 while Power And Glory recorded 15.40.

"Then in a post-to-post slip there, Polaris Missile ran 24.20 while his brother only clocked 24.60."

"But Power And Glory kept improving and in his first trial at The Gardens, he clocked 29.24 for the 515m while after a sizzling 24.07 post-to-post slip at Dapto, he recorded 29.59 at his first 520m trial there.

"Power And Glory and Polaris Missile are by Hooked On Scotch from their breeder Vince Murray's smart short course bitch Kwong Magic, who won seven from only 15 races.''

Polaris Missile has won one from three races while Power And Glory goes around in race five at Bulli on Tuesday afternoon.

Meanwhile, the greyhounds' breeder Vince Murray is enjoying training success with Moments Of Magic, who has won two of her three starts, the latest over 472m at Bulli in brilliant 26.27.

"I bred Kwong Magic, the dam of these smart young dogs, and named her after veterinary surgeon Matt Kwong, who has long looked after the welfare of my greyhounds,'' Murray said.

Greg "Hypo" Hore trained the complete field of six in a 600m race at Dapto last Thursday night and will again have the entire lineup in a 630m event at Nowra on Monday.

Last Thursday Hore's Monster Mel was sent out a $1.40 favourite and did the right thing by punters, winning by five lengths from her $31 kennelmate Hannah Hawke.

"Monster Mel had box one last Thursday and has got the rails again at Nowra so should be winning again,'' Hore said.

"Originally I had six runners at Nowra but Sunshine Gal, who had box four, has gone amiss and has had to be scratched.

"Monster Mel is just back from a seasonal spell and is racing well.

"On their best form, I would expect Cassie Cool, who has box five at Nowra, to give her a tough race.

"But Cassie Cool was disappointing when fourth at Dapto on Thursday so particularly the way they are drawn, I can't see her turning the tables at Nowra.''
