Kennelmates Clash At Wenty

By Jeff Collerson
Zipping Remus is undefeated in four races from box one but trainer Minnie Finn believes his kennelmate Zipping Caleb might bring that winning streak to an end on Saturday night.

Zipping Remus, who has not raced for nearly three months, will wear the red rug in Saturday night's 520m Free-For-All while Zipping Caleb will exit box three.

Zipping Caleb came from seventh at the first turn but out-railed his rivals to be third on the back straight before storming home for an easy win in last Saturday night's Group Three Ladbrokes Christmas Gift at Wentworth Park.

He had box three last week and Finn thinks he can put in a repeat performance on Saturday.

"Zipping Remus has a perfect draw but Zipping Caleb has race fitness on his side and that's always a big advantage,'' Finn said.

"Zipping Caleb has become very clever at finding the fence and I can't see why he won't do the same thing on Saturday.''

Aussie's Thunder has been "crying out" for box eight according to trainer Mick Hardman so he is delighted at the prospect of his dog wearing the pink rug in Saturday's Sky Racing Radio Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

"He is only a steady dog, no world beater, but he is a very good chaser,'' Hardman said.

"Aussie's Thunder won over 350m at Goulburn at his only race from box eight and has been crying out for the wide draw.''

At his last start at Dapto, Aussie's Thunder had box one but after leading early he ran off at the first turn and allowed the winner Trunkey Chief to get underneath him to reach the lead.

Ritza Debra and Cindy Keeping will be on trial for a start in the January 12 heats of the Group One National Futurity when they meet in Saturday night's 520m Ladbrokes Racing Club Bitches' Final at Wentworth Park.

In last Friday's heats, Ritza Debra notched her third straight Wentworth Park win when she led throughout in a fast 29.80 while Cindy Keeping drew clear to win in 29.93 after disputing the lead for the first 250m.

Cindy Keeping's trainer Shayne Stiff said: "Her owner Charmaine Roberts and I decided to keep sending this greyhound around Wentworth Park until the Futurity heats come along.

"She has box eight on Saturday night and is well drawn but Ritza Debra is going to be hard to beat.''

Stiff has the promising Flying Vance in box seven in Saturday's NSW GBOTA Welcome Stakes, a 520m fifth grade, and gives that dog a good chance.

"It's difficult to get 500m races for dogs like him so he has not raced since winning at Dubbo on November 27,'' Stiff said.

"That could leave him short of a run but I was very happy with his second at Wentworth Park on November 17.

"Flying Vance clocked 30.15 getting beaten that night despite not having previously seen the track.

"He is a good railer but he can still handle box seven okay on Saturday because he will run in a straight line to the first corner, he won't crash over.''

Saturday's best bet should be the in-form Tony Pepperoni, who has box one in the Ladbroke It! Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

Trainer Dana Ivers has Tony Pepperoni really firing at present and the dog has won four of his past five starts on provincial courses.
