Bush Grabs Handful at Gunnedah

By Simon Orchard
Jamie Bush is flying high today after achieving an incredible feat at Gunnedah on Monday.

The 39-year-old rugging up six greyhounds at his local track, with Royman, Mick The Master, Notorious Nigel, GOOFY Gilligan and Turbo Worm all greeting the judge first to give Bush a quintet of winners.

“Going alright hey, stars have been aligning,” an understated Bush said over the phone.

“I’ve Never had five winners at one meeting. It’s only the last six months I’ve really ramped up the operation and it’s basically just me, my mate and co-owner Beau Hansen and his kids Ruby (14) and Rory (12), and my kids Tahni (14) and Kade (12).”

“But the last few weeks have been the best of my life to be honest. I think we’ve had 17 winners at Gunnedah in three weeks and it’s given everyone involved a real thrill.”

Youngster All Class Kev was the only Bush runner to taste defeat, going down by 0.25 of a length in the opening race of the day – not that he knew any different.

“I think Kev thought he won as well when the Maccas ice creams came around,” Bush laughed.

“I wouldn’t say any of them are flying machines and I’m not sure they were going as good as the market suggested but it was a great buzz, especially for the kids who are my right hand helpers.”

“The new litter of pups, Mick The Master, Notorious Nigel and All Class Kev in particular have been a great addition. We reared them, broke them in, gave them names, have trialled them and now they are winning races, the kids are stoked.”

“Mick The Master has had 4 wins from 4 starts and Notorious Nigel - who is actually owned by Rory Hansen - has won two of three as well. He can run a bit but is still young and green and getting it together.”

Bush also buoyed by the form of GOOFY Gilligan who has won three of his last four outings.

GOOFY flopped out of the machine but went straight up the fence, peeled wide at the top turn and just kept punching. I thought it was as good win and he really seems to be humming at the moment,” he said.

The runaway Gunnedah premiership leader also extending his sizeable lead atop the standings with only a few race meetings left in the calendar year.

Bush cheekily proclaiming he “had no idea” he was so far ahead of good mate Nevyl Hand.

“I don’t look at the premiership, but Nev said he was nipping at my heels a while ago…I think he might be a bit further back now,” Bush chuckled.

Nev always says he’s gonna catch me and we have a good time mucking around and competing against one another. He lives five minutes from Beau, and Nev’s young fella, Nick, is always around the dogs and helping me out too so we all get along great.”

Bush enjoying a career-best year in the sport with 94 winners across 2023, with Ladbrokes Million Dollar Chase semi-finalist, Julia Bush, racking up 17 of those for the kennel.
