Repeat Performance Tipped For Overflow Jill

By Jeff Collerson
Overflow Jill recorded clearly her fastest time in five Wentworth Park appearances when she trounced a fifth-grade field last Friday and looks a stand-out bet after being drawn to oppose a nearly identical field on Saturday night.

Last week Overflow Jill led all the way from box seven and won by nearly nine lengths in a smart 29.79, well inside her previous best 520m time of 29.91.

She moves to box two in Saturday's Ladbrokes Racing Club Stakes but trainer Craig Chappelow is happy with her draw.

"I must admit I was slightly surprised at how quick she went last week,'' Chappelow said.

"Overflow Jill was far from fast when she was being educated but she has done nothing but improve.

"She runs in a straight line and from wide boxes she eases over to the rails when she clears her opponents.

"Because she has drawn a lot of middle to outside boxes she has had to learn not to crash left but she is a railer and from box two I am confident she can repeat last week's run.''

August Bob has failed in two Wentworth Park starts but trainer Steve Fitch has a good opinion of the dog and gives him a good chance in Saturday night's Typhoon Sammy Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

"Before he raced at Wenty I trialled him there and when he clocked 30 seconds flat I thought he could get into the 29.90s at least.

"Then he came out and ran 29.61 and 29.66 at Dapto but he has not done it at Wentworth Park.

"However his two Wenty starts were in harder races than August Bob is in on Saturday night, one of them was a heat of the Young Star Classic.

"I never knock box one but he does want to use a bit of the track so he needs to begin cleanly.''

Scott Board believes his son Joshua's greyhounds Spring Meteor and Spring Elegance are boxed "upside down" in Saturday night's NSW GBOTA Welcome Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

"It's disappointing they are in the same race, especially as Spring Meteor, who is the quicker of the pair, has box one and likes to get up the track in the run to the first turn.

"Spring Elegance is a keen railer so I hope they don't bring each other unstuck.

"If Spring Elegance had box one and Spring Meteor box two I'd be more confident.

"But Spring Elegance is capable of coming out two lengths in front so hopefully she does that on Saturday, because if she does Spring Meteor might be able to get on the outside of her.

"In Spring Meteor's favour is that it is race one because he plays up in the kennels so is always better off when he is drawn in an early race.''

Saturday's top grade Ladbrokes Odds Surge Stakes, 520m, is a tricky affair with wide runner Eyes To Eyes in box one and Mortified, who has not been beginning with her former dash in box two.

Best drawn runner is One Hot Bandit, who is reverting to 520m after finishing second and fourth in a heat and final of the Ladbrokes Middle Distance Championship at Dapto at his past two starts.

He was sent out a $2 favourite after drawing box one in the November 23 final but was last away and was far from disgraced in beating all but the placegetters.

One Hot Bandit has won four of six races from box eight and looks drawn to enhance this impressive record, with Saturday's small field also in his favour.
