Rocket Looking To Live Up To Trial

By Jeff Collerson
Nangar Rocket should only need to reproduce a recent blistering 520m trial at Wentworth Park to notch his third win at headquarters on Saturday night.

Nangar Rocket has box one in the #getyourgreyhoundon Stakes, a 520m fifth grade, and trainer Dennis Barnes believes he can win so long as he doesn't find trouble by trying to push wide going to the first turn.

"He has won four of his five starts from box one but each of those wins has been over middle distances from bend starts at Dubbo and Gosford,'' Barnes said.

"At Wenty when he leaves the boxes Nangar Rocket wants to push up the track in the run to the first corner and that has cost him dearly in the past.

"However he has not been doing it to such an extent at his past couple of starts and is certainly going great as he trialled 29.42 for me at Wenty a few weeks back.''

Hardest for Nangar Rocket to beat looms as Eyes To Eyes, a wide runner who looks ideally drawn in box eight.

Ironically Eyes To Eyes' trainer Neville Brown bred the greyhound from a bitch named Nangar Jay, which he obtained from Dennis Barnes.

When Peter Lagogiane was private trainer for the Crown Prince of Dubai their greyhounds were housed in a facility in Nad Al Sheba so it was only fitting that he would eventually name a talented dog after the complex.

Nad Al Sheba will be seeking his first Wentworth Park win in Saturday night's Ladbrokes Bet Ticker Stakes, a 520m fifth grade, and Lagogiane believes the greyhound only needs to "use" box one to win.

Nad Al Sheba has had 10 wins and eight placings from 20 starts and is coming off a luckless third, from box seven, behind Yachi Bale and Isle's Entity in a semi-final of the Ladbrokes Million Dollar Chase on October 6.

"I'm not sure Wentworth Park is his track because Nad Al Sheba is probably better suited on a more roomy circuit,'' Lagogiane said.

"But this does look a good race for him and he is able to handle tighter courses.

"He has trialled 29.60 at The Gardens and has clocked a very fast 24sec flat in a post-to-post slip at Wenty.

"Nad Al Sheba has also recorded a first split of 5.40 at Wentworth Park so if he comes out cleanly on Saturday he should be up near the lead at the first turn.''

Shanghai Suzie hasn't won in four attempts from box one but can break through in Saturday night's Ladbroke It! Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

She has won each of two starts from box two but trainer Greg Remfry is happy at the prospect of her wearing the red rug on Saturday.

"The last time Shanghai Suzie had box one was at WP on September 13 and she led clearly before being run down by a top class greyhound in One Hot Bandit,'' Remfry said.

"Shanghai Suzie finished sixth from box seven at WP last Saturday but although she jumped well she just couldn't get across at the first turn.

"There was a lot of pace underneath her and she was trapped wide so I wasn't disappointed with her run.

"I have had a bit of trouble getting Shanghai Suzie's weight right but I believe she is 100 per cent again now.''

Shanghai Suzie should only need to begin with her customary zip to lead at the first turn, as Blue Moves, in box two, is likely to give her room to move in the charge to the first turn.

Saturday's best bet should be Mortified, who boasts a 50 per cent winning record of 11 wins from 22 races at Wentworth Park.

Mortified has box two in the top grade Typhoon Sammy @ Sires On Ice Stakes and has a near ideal draw, with wide runner Farmor Order in three and moderate beginner Black Wizard in one.

Mortified has had no luck from wide boxes at her past two WP appearances but was runner-up to Umberto in the group one Dapto Megastar at her most recent outing from box two on September 7.
