Gosford Double For Green

By Jeff Collerson
Tarawi Aroura, who scored an impressive first-up win at Gosford on Tuesday night, joined hobby trainer Chris Green's kennels as a "goodwill gesture" from renowned owner-breeder Lorraine Atchison.

Tarawi Aroura, who led throughout from box eight to score over 388m in 22.50, was part of a winning double for the Silverdale-based trainer.

Green also won with Future Ethics, whose success over the same trip in 22.52 took his record to win five wins from 16 starts.

"I had bought a dog from Lorraine some time back but when that dog's career came to an abrupt end she kindly replaced him for me free of charge,'' Green said.

"After that she gave me a dog called Tarawi Zoomer to train for her, but after he had 11 races without managing a placing she agreed to swap him for Tarawi Aroura, who was unraced but showing promise.

"Tarawi Aroura trialled promisingly for me over 401m at Richmond but I nominated her for Gosford because I needed to get up to the central coast to collect her racing papers from Lorraine's son-in-law, well known trainer Troy Macdonald.

"It was a bit of a gamble but Lorraine told me Tarawi Aroura had been around Gosford in a trial a long time ago so we nominated her for there and she went terrific.

"Her next start will be at Richmond on Sunday but I might come back to earth with a crash because she is drawn against the John Finn-trained Poco Rico and Astro Girl, trained by Jason Magri.

"But Tarawi Aroura can run 22.90 at Richmond and her rivals have so far only clocked around that time in their races.

"I obtained Future Ethics from David Smith, who I became friends with through assisting with his dogs at the Richmond Saturday morning straight track meetings.''

Chris Green is the transport safety specialist manager with a major supermarket chain, but thanks to the help he receives from his partner Teri, he is able to also juggle training a team of 10 greyhounds.

Although relatively new to training greyhounds, the Greens' double at Gosford on Tuesday gave the couple their third brace of TAB track winners.

National Futurity winner Wyndra All Class has received an invitation to contest next month's Topgun but trainer Daniel Gatt has declared she has no chance of contesting The Meadows event.

Wyndra All Class has not raced since August and Gatt said: "I have only just put her back into work so she will be nowhere near ready for the Topgun.

"Her return to racing is probably around two months away.''
