Ladbrokes Million Dollar Chase

Jazzy Pack's Million-Dollar Dreams

By Jeff Collerson
Jazzy Pack has earned a well deserved crack at Monday's Nowra regional heats of the Ladbrokes Million Dollar Chase with her fourth Wentworth Park win last Saturday night.

But it is as a brood bitch that owner James Bereyne and trainer Glen Quirk are most excited about Jazzy Pack's future.

It's no wonder as Jazzy Pack is by Kinloch Brae from Solar Pak, one of the greatest producers in Australian greyhound racing.

Solar Pak's progeny include the litter brothers Feral Franky and Good Odds Harada, who were racetrack sensations and are now successful stud dogs.

Good Odds Harada won the Million Dollar Chase in 2019

Glen Quirk said: "Realistically Jazzy Pack is not up to winning a Million Dollar Chase final but we might as well have a throw at the stumps, beginning with the regional heats at Nowra on Monday.

"Even reaching the Million Dollar Chase semi-finals at Wentworth Park would boost her value as a brood bitch.

"Jazzy Pack has only just turned three but she will only race until she comes in season.

"She is due on in November and her owner has got his hands on a Collision straw, so she will be mated to that dog when the time comes.

"When mated with Solar Pak, Jazzy Pack's mother, Collision produced Feral Franky and Good Odds Harada so getting a litter with similar breeding is an exciting prospect.

"Jazzy Pack was the first greyhound her owner purChased so he has had a bit of luck there.''

Glen Quirk has been involved in greyhound racing for 22 years, originally working with the late Tony Reilly at his Tall Timbers establishment and later training in NEW ZEALAND with renowned Kiwi trainer Karen Walsh.

"These days I am on the property at Collector which was formerly home to Kim and Andrew Mulrine's greyhounds,'' Quirk said.

"There are about 40 dogs here, including a dozen race dogs, a few litters of pups and some which I am pre-training.''

Al's Entity came from last when a luckless third in Zipping Remus' Group 1 Vic Peters Classic final at Wentworth Park in July and now his litter sister Isle's Entity has roared into the October 6 semi-finals of the Ladbrokes Million Dollar Chase at headquarters.

Not to be outdone, Al's Entity came from fifth early to win the Ladbrokes Million Dollar Chase regional final at Bulli on Tuesday.

Victorian owner Maureen Barry sent Al's Entity to Sydney trainer Michelle Sultana for the Vic Peters and after trialling a sensational 29.50 at Wentworth Park, the dog reached the final of the 520m Wentworth Park classic.

Al's Entity showed his liking for Sydney and trainer Michelle Sultana's care by winnng Tuesday's Bulli MDC final, ushering himself into the October 6 semi-finals at Wentworth Park where he will be joined by his litter sister Isle's Entity.

Isle's Entity, also owned by Maureen Barry, won just three of nine small races in Victoria before being sent to Sultana and following an unlucky fifth in his Maitland MDC heat, the dog scraped into Monday's final after being drawn as second reserve.

"She had no luck in her Maitland heat, she was taken out on the home turn when in a prominent position,'' trainer Michelle Sultana said.

In the final Isle's Entity was hampered crossing to the rails from box seven but finished full of determination to win, covering the 450m in 24.98.

Sultana added: "I've got no issue about her ability to run 520 metres at Wenty as she has run some fast times in Melbourne.''
