Blue Goose Boy To Get First Wenty Win

By Jeff Collerson
The highly talented Blue Goose Boy should only need to begin cleanly to end his frustrating run of Wentworth Park placings in Wednesday night's MDC City Qualifiers Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

Blue Goose Boy was runner-up on debut at Wentworth Park on August 10 and has been the minor placegetter in each of two subsequent appearances at the track, the latest on August 26 when he bungled the start and came from midfield in the early stages.

Trainer Daniel Gatt believes box one boosts the dog's chances on Wednesday night.

"Blue Goose Boy is nearly 36kg and is a big, loping type of greyhound who can be tardy coming out of the boxes,'' Gatt said.

"But box one should suit him and he only has to come out and rail up to put himself right into the race at the first turn.''

Gatt believes Blue Goose Boy, who has won from box one over 401m at Richmond and 400m at Bulli, has drawn one of the easier fifth grades on Wednesday night.

His brother Mark Gatt has the promising Stockton Slap in box one in the PBD Ladbroke It! Stakes which has attracted an outstanding field of up-and-coming fifth graders.

Mark Gatt said: "When Stockton Slap won at his only start, at Dapto from box eight, he railed well so the inside alley looks ideal for him.

"I think he is going to develop into the type of dog who can handle any draw but in this red hot field on Wednesday box one is a plus for sure.''

Wentworth Park 280m specialist Okey, who has had five wins and four placings from 11 outings over the Glebe circuit's short course, faces his toughest task in Wednesday night's PBD Where Else But Wenty Stakes, a top grade sprint.

Okey's Wentworth Park wins include near record 15.85 and 15.89 performances but on Wednesday he has box three and faces tough opposition from boom provincial speedster Armatree Cash, in box one.

Armatree Cash has notched six wins and two placings from her past eight short course assignments on out-of-town tracks and although she has not raced at Wentworth Park she is well acquainted with Wednesday's venue.

Armatree Cash with trainer Peter Lagogiane

Trainer Peter Lagogiane said: "Armatree Cash has been well schooled at Wenty, she has had a lot of experience in trials there.

"I gave her plenty of looks at the track earlier in her career in the hope she would eventually be able to run out a strong 520 metres.

"But that's not going to happen, she isn't going to get 520m so we will just keep her doing what she does best, and that is sprinting.

"All Armatree Cash has to do on Wednesday is to jump well from box one and she should be hard to beat.

"She can't afford to miss the kick because I believe the dog in box two will want to hunt for the fence when the lids go up.''

One Hot Bandit missed qualifying for the group one Dapto Megastar in finishing third in Mortified's heat last Thursday night but trainer Andy Lord thinks the dog can return to the winner's circle at Wentworth Park on Wednesday.

One Hot Bandit has box six in the top grade 520m Ladbrokes Racing Club Stakes with his trainer declaring: "Wenty is his best track.

"Before the 520m Megastar heats One Hot Bandit trialled a near record 29.42 there but he got a long way back in the early stages of the race.

"He rattled home in the straight and while I suppose he looked a shade disappointing he is a real Wentworth Park dog, he has won eight from 11 there and his wide draw on Wednesday won't hurt him.''
