Drop In Class Will Suit We Don't Share

By Jeff Collerson
We Don't Share has been runner-up to group winners at each of his past three Wentworth Park starts and should display his liking for a hefty drop in class by notching his 10th win at headquarters on Wednesday night.

We Don't Share will exit box eight in the Ladbrokes Odds Surge Free-For-All, an extremely modest class of top-grade event.

Last Wednesday at Wentworth Park, We Don't Share bungled the start and came from last to beat all but Maitland Gold Cup winner Len Me Dad in 29.73, best time of the night.

We Don't Share had contested the NSW National Sprint Championship at his two previous outings, going under by less than a length to Modern Swinger in a heat on August 5 and in the final five nights later.

On Wednesday We Don't Share will be out to enhance his impressive record from wide draws.

He has won three of five outings wearing the black rug and been first home in three from six appearances while donning the pink jacket.

Septimus has won his past two races in almost pedestrian times but is a much better greyhound than that would indicate and is ready to show his true ability in Wednesday's NSW GBOTA Welcome Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

Septimus was almost knocked off his feet by a wide runner at the first turn at Dapto on July 27 but staged a remarkable recovery to get up and win in 31.06, slow time for the 520m trip.

At his Wentworth Park debut last Wednesday Septimus knuckled over as he left the starting boxes and came from a distant last approaching the first turn to score in 30.66, slowest time of the meeting.

Trainer Wayne Sugars said: "He can't afford to come out as badly as that this week because he had a but if luck when they spread out at the first turn.

"But while Septimus is not brilliant early he is very strong and is a clever dog in a field.

"I reckon he would have broken 30sec at Dapto if he had not been skittled on the first corner.

"And last Wednesday was the first time Septimus had been out of the boxes at Wenty.

"The only time he had seen the place was for a post-to-post hand-slip when he clocked the reasonable time of 24.48.''

Hardest for Septimus to beat are likely to be favourite Lochinvar Hawk, a smart beginner and winner of two from three Wentworth Park outings, and Marley Emgrand, who made the pace when third at her Wentworth Park debut last Wednesday.

Luke Azzopardi, trainer of Marley Emgrand, said: "She has ability but is a nervous sort of greyhound.''

Azzopardi's best chances on Wednesday look to be Major Ando, who has box two in the Farrell's 4x2 fourth and fourth grade, and Emgrand Centre, drawn in six in the PBD Ladbroke It! Stakes fifth grade.

"Emgrand Centre is a good railer and would be better suited from an inside alley but even though he has drawn poorly, he overcame box seven to win his maiden at Wentworth Park last week and I have a high opinion of him,'' Azzopardi said.

"Major Ando was having his first race in over two months when he won over 320m at Richmond on Sunday but I'm confident stepping up to 520m on Wednesday won't be a problem.

"He had a couple of hard runs up the straight in trials before Sunday's sprint and because that was a finish-on lure race, Major Ando really travelled 400m, not 320m.

"I think if he does get run down on Wednesday it will only be in the last 10 metres.''

Wednesday's sole 720m event, the one to four wins fifth grade, is a wide open affair but Lady Exit, despite her tricky box five draw, could represent good value.

She made the pace until the top of the straight when second, beaten one-and-a-half lengths by Cassie Cool, at her Wentworth Park 720m debut 11 nights ago.

Trainer Simon Ma said: "As that race was Lady Exit's first beyond 622m I'm hoping she will be improved by the run.

"I have not been able to get a draw in a long distance race with her since, but she has had a couple of good hand-slips to condition her.''

Lady Exit at Wentworth Park on 12th August, where she ran 2nd to Cassie Cool.
