Vale - Ken Milne

By Jeff Collerson
Ken Milne, one of NSW's greatest trainers from 1960 until the early 80s, has passed away aged 92.

Brilliant beginner Bold Stripper, one of the most consistent bitches to race at Dapto in the early 1960s, was arguably his first top class greyhound, while around the same time his stayer Telga King twice reached the final of the Summer Cup over 732m at Harold Park.

Ken Milne trained High Bracket to win the Richmond Thousand on the old Londonderry straight track, and also prepared Fancy You who made the final of a Ladies Bracelet.

His last top notcher was probably his best greyhound, the crack stayer Long Lost Friend, who was runner-up as a 2/1 ($3) second favourite behind Mercia Bale in the 1980 Wentworth Park Gold Cup.

Ken's son Greg Milne was a successful trainer in Darwin until recently when ill health forced him to move to Queensland.

GRNSW wishes to extend its condolences to the family and friends of the late Ken Milne, one of the last of the great trainers of the sport's golden age.
