Another Lord On The Horizon

Husband and wife team Andy and Jodie Lord have dominated Wentworth Park trainers' premierships in recent years but on Saturday night it was their 31-year-old daughter Hayley who represented the family, leading in three winners.

Hayley handled dad Andy's trio We Don't Share, who won the Free-For-All over 520m in a best of the night 29.76, along with that dog's kennelmates My Bandit, a 29.96 fifth grade winner and Punter's Bandit, who ran her rivals off their legs for an easy win in a top grade 720m event, clocking a tidy 41.85.

Andy Lord said: "Hayley is working for us now and has begun breeding her own greyhounds.

"And it won't be long before she is taking out a trainer's licence of her own.''

West Australian coal miner Mick Pitman landed his first Wentworth Park winner as an owner when $71 outsider Zipping Snickers led all the way to take out Saturday night's opening event.

Zipping Snickers led narrowly in the early stages but drew away gradually to score by two lengths in a steady 30.68.

After the race the bitch's trainer Andrew Bell said: "I'm so relieved to see this greyhound win for Mick because over the past few months he has spent around $75,000 buying 10 greyhounds.

"Tonight Zipping Snickers was his 10th runner but first winner so I'm not only relieved but very happy for Mick, who was on the phone immediately after the race and was ecstatic about owning a Wenty winner.''

Shanghai Suzie, the $2.70 favourite, gave her supporters a scare in the straight when she set up a big lead on the back straight but faded near the finish to win her fifth grade by a head in 30.20.

After the race her trainer Greg Remfry said: "I'm not surprised she got tired because she was having her first race since May 13.

"She has been trialling well enough over shorter distances in hand-slips but tonight Shanghai Suzie was tackling 520m for the first time in about 10 weeks.

"She has good early pace and from box seven she was only just able to clear her rivals to lead around the first turn.

"But she has a habit of being able to do that.''

Quantifiable had to work hard to take her Wentworth Park record to four wins from five appearances in a slickly run 29.94 fifth grade.

Sent out a raging hot $1.55 favourite despite having a tricky box eight draw, Quantfiable was beaten narrowly for the early lead by noted front runner Shian Lani, who had box seven and posted a 5.39 first split.

Quantifiable displayed great determination to work her way around Shian Lani to lead going through the catching pen before coming away to win by nearly three lengths.

Only other greyhounds to break 30sec on Saturday were the Lindsay Davis-trained Kingsbrae Demon and Cumbria Days, from Steve Fitch's kennels at Nowra.

Each clocked 29.97, with Cumbria Days scoring his fifth Wentworth Park victory and Kingsbrae Demon winning at his first start on the track.
