Kids Better Than Their Mum

Banjo Tifia reached a Golden Easter Egg final for her trainer Chris O'Brien but her offspring from her first litter, comprising Mortified, Quantifiable and Modern Swinger, are better than their mother.

That was O'Brien's declaration after Quantifiable (pictured) and Modern Swinger not only won impressively at Wentworth Park on Saturday night but posted the two fastest times of the night.

Quantifiable led throughout in 29.81, after reeling off splits of 5.43, 13.69 and 17.74, while Modern Swinger's sectional figures were 5.45, 13.78 and 17.84 en route to a 29.84 all the way win.

Mortified has been spelling but is on the way back and ready to enhance her record of 15 wins from 26 starts.

While Quantifiable tired in the straight on Saturday night, O'Brien is confident she will become stronger at the end of 520m.

"She was coming into tonight's race off a 297m event at Dapto and a 350m race at Goulburn and that was her first 500 in over two months,'' O'Brien said.

"So I was rapt in how well she went.''

Sharing training honours with O'Brien at Wentworth Park on Saturday with a winning double was in-form trainer Justin King, who won with Seaton Key in 30.13 and Copious in 29.95.

Seaton Key had been desperately unlucky when placed in his only two previous Wentworth Park appearances and a moderate getaway almost brought him unstuck on Saturday.

After Seaton Key came from third on the back straight to win by a neck, King said: "He is usually a reliable beginner and while he didn't come out like he can tonight, he drove up determinedly and showed all the signs of a really good chaser.''

King trains Seaton Key for Queensland miner Ricky Muller, who was racing the dog in Townsville until March.

Copious, whose mother Steal The Glory never raced simply because she refused to chase the lure, notched his fourth Wentworth Park win with a tenacious finish from fourth on the back straight.

Copious was once considered an inside box specialist, but came from box seven on Saturday and had won from the same draw at Wentworth Park on June 28.

"You wouldn't think Copious had enough early zip to get across from a wide draw at Wenty but he now seems to like being able to go around his rivals in the middle and latter stages.''

Happiest trainer at Wentworth Park on Saturday night was Fred Xuereb, who won with Whirlwind Ethics in a slick 29.99.

A beaming Xuereb explained: "I train this dog for John Ellul who is battling cancer and is confined to a wheelchair.

"I got to know John after I sold him a couple of dogs and then he asked me to buy one for him which might give him his first Wentworth Park winner.

"David Smith was selling some of his dogs and I bought Whirlwind Ethics for $6000 on John's behalf.

"When Whirlwind Ethics led around the first turn tonight I knew they wouldn't beat him because in a hand-slip at Wenty for me he ran home in 11.65, so he is strong.

"John was so excited hearing Whirlwind Ethics' win that he phoned me from the hospital a few minutes after tonight's race.''

Whirlwind Ethics' breeder David Smith also had a successful night at Wentworth Park on Saturday, training the successful quinella in race six when Got The Feature led throughout to beat kennelmate Tarawi Rocky in 29.88.
