Zipping Remus Ready For Vic Peters

By Jeff Collerson
Zipping Remus is unbeaten in two starts from box one and while the dog clocked a scorching 29.50 winning his heat from box eight his connections are happy seeing him in the red rug in Saturday night's Ladbrokes Vic Peters Classic final at Wentworth Park.

Minnie Finn, whose husband John trains Zipping Remus, said: "I would have preferred him in box eight again but box one is the next best thing so we're not complaining.

"Zipping Remus has to come out cleanly and if he does he should make full use of the draw and be hard to beat.''

John and Minnie Finn won last year's group one Vic Peters with Gatlin in 29.94 but that dog's fastest Wentworth Park time was 29.28, while Zipping Remus' personal best is 29.45.

Minnie Finn said Zipping Remus is a different type of dog to their 2022 Vic Peters winner.

"Gatlin was a very fast dog but we had to work hard to keep him going at his best while Zipping Remus, although he may not be quite as quick, is much easier to train, he does it all himself,'' she said.

Team Finn also have outsiders Zipping Rousey (box four) and Zipping Foxy (box six) in Saturday night's Group 1 Ladbrokes Peter Mosman Opal and Minnie Finn believes Zipping Rousey is capable of causing an upset.

"She was only beaten three lengths when runner-up behind Miss Mcgraw in 29.63, fastest of the heats, and I think she can improve on Saturday night,'' Minnie Finn said.

"We were disappointed with Zipping Rousey's unplaced run at Albion Park on June 1 so when we brought her home we threw out in the paddock and eased up on her.

"She has run 29.68 at Wenty and is capable of getting out of a box very smartly.''

FORBES trainer Jack Smith has the two favourites for the Peter Mosman, Bella Una, a 29.73 heat winner in box one and Miss Mcgraw, who won her heat in 29.63, in two.

"Bella Una is perfectly drawn but Miss Mcgraw is likely to want to use a bit of the track,'' Smith said.

"Miss Mcgraw is a bit quicker, she is stronger at the end of 520 metres, but the way they are boxed I'm a bit worried Nangar Lucy, who has box three, might cut Miss Mcgraw off at the start.''

Miss Mcgraw is owned by Sandra Spratt, whose father Dennis Barnes trains Peter Mosman finalist Nangar Lucy along with Vic Peters qualifier Nangar Larry.

Nangar Lucy was second, beaten four lengths, in Bella Una's heat while Nangar Larry was minor placegetter behind Tarawi Tiger and Al's Entity in a Vic Peters qualifier.

Dennis Barnes said: "There is nothing between Nangar Lucy and Nangar Larry in ability but I was a bit disappointed with their heat runs.

"They were having their first races at Wentworth Park but they had been there, with Nangar Lucy trialling 30.16 and then 30.00 flat.

"Nangar Larry had clocked 29.90 in his only trial at Wentworth Park when he was having his first ever test over 520m.

"Maybe I'm being a bit hard on them but I did think they would both go a bit better in their heats.''

Al's Entity, who followed a fast Wentworth Park 520m trial in 29.50 with being runner-up in Tarawi Tiger's 29.90 Vic Peters heat, is well drawn in box seven according to trainer Michelle Sultana.

Al's Entity

Sultana felts Al's Entity was not suited by box one in his heat and Sultana was hoping for box eight in Saturday night's final.

When he drew box seven, with wide runner Calypso Rogue to exit box eight in the final, Sultana declared: "Al's Entity is well drawn, that's for sure.''
