Ladbrokes Vic Peters Classic (G1)

Group One Heats Set To Thrill On Saturday

Starline Express, who produced two 350m track record trials at Grafton but missed a start in the rich Thunderbolt series, could upset favourite Al's Entity in Saturday night's second heat of the group 1 Ladbrokes Vic Peters Classic.

Starline Express is well boxed in seven and while Al's Entity clocked a flying 29.50 in a 520m trial at Wentworth Park last week, he could want to move wide if crowded from box one in the run to the first turn.

Reg Gardoll, trainer of Starline Express, said: "He had his first race for six weeks and won over 450m at Grafton last Saturday.

"But while I expect him to be the pacemaker in his Vic Peters heat, he could be getting tired in the run home.

"Reason for that is I was setting him for the recent Thunderbolt series and when I trialled him over the 350m of that race he clocked track record times of 19.55 and 19.64.

"But then he was unable to gain a start in the Thunderbolt because he was only classified as a fifth grader for 350m races.

"So I had to change plans and get him ready for the Vic Peters, so it has been a bit of a rush.''

Starline Express, who boasts a personal best Wentworth Park time of 29.77, led to near the home turn when second to SA champion Victa Damian in the group 1 Ladbrokes National Derby at Wenty in January, when he reeled off an electrifying initial split of 5.33sec.

Zipping Remus has not started from boxes seven or eight but Minnie Finn, whose husband John trains the exciting youngster, does not believe the extreme outside draw will worry the dog in Saturday night's first Vic Peters Classic heat.

Zipping Remus has had seven races at Wentworth Park for five wins and two placings and with a personal best of 29.45 is the quickest Wenty performer engaged in the Vic Peters Classic heats.

Minnie Finn said: "The wide draw won't worry Remus, he will handle it all right.''

Victorian trainer Jessica Sharp has Meatball Molly (box two) and Kimiko (box eight) going into heats one and two of Saturday's group 1 Ladbrokes Peter Mosman Opal without having seen the Wentworth Park circuit.

Sharp's husband Jason said: "They have not trialled at Wentworth Park but are going well enough to acquit themselves nicely.

"Meatball Molly is probably our better chance as while her form has dropped off a bit she has been racing very good dogs,  greyhounds of the calibre of Wow She's Fast.

"She is nicely drawn and could surprise everyone while Kimiko has won three from seven starts but would be better suited from an inside box.

"And Kimiko is still very young, she was only whelped in November, 2021.''

Sydney greyhounds often finish their careers in Townsville but Seaton Key, who began racing on the far north Queensland track, has been a revelation since joining Londonderry trainer Justin King's kennels.

Seaton Key, who makes his Wentworth Park debut from box three in Saturday night's NSW GBOTA Welcome Stakes, clocked a sizzling 22.12 winning over 400m at Bulli at only his second start for King on April 4.

The dog's five appearances for King have resulted in three wins and a second and the trainer is upbeat about the dog's prospects on Saturday night.

"I trialled him over 520m at Wentworth Park last week and he surprised me by not only producing a nippy first splt of 5.47 but clocking a fast overall time of 29.81,'' King said.

"When the owner contacted me and said he felt the dog was capable of winning in Sydney I must admit I was a bit dubious, but Seaton Key has not put a foot wrong since coming to down here.''

Aston Barak looked a graded certainty before winning in a slick 29.91 at Wentworth Park last Saturday night and the dog should send favourite backers home happy again after contesting an identical grade in this week's 520m Masters Stakes.
