Jet Screams To Another Win

By Jeff Collerson
A rise in class failed to stop the winning streak of NSW's most consistent greyhound Screaming Jet who recorded his sixth straight Wentworth Park success on Saturday night.

The Andy Lord-trained dog drew box one for the first time in 16 starts and led all the way to win the 520m Free-For-All in a personal best time of 29.62.

Although Screaming Jet moved wide on the first turn, it's fair to say the inside box helped him to victory.

Simply Limelight, this year's Golden Easter Egg winner, staged a remarkable performance to come from last at the first turn and a distant fifth with 250m to go to finish second, beaten less than a length.

Simply Limelight's performance from an unsuitable box six draw was a slashing trial for Thursday night's heats of the group 1 Brisbane Cup at Albion Park.

Before the race Simply Limelight's trainer Peter Rodgers said: "I'm not confident tonight because he has a poor draw and will be happy if he runs a place.''

Simply Limelight did Rodgers proud but full honours were with the winner, who has now had eight wins and four seconds from 13 Wentworth Park appearances.

And the dog was "robbed" of another Wentworth Park victory when he held a big lead in the home straight of a race which was declared null and void due to a fallen dog running back into the field.

Cranebrook trainer Barry Gibbons, who landed a winning treble at Wentworth Park last Saturday week, took out Saturday's fifth grade bitches' final with Foran Banner, who produced a personal best 29.89 to score.

Foran Banner, one of Gibbons' trio of winners a week earlier, led throughout from box three, reeling off dazzling early splits of 5.36 and 13.85 enroute to her three lengths win.

After the race Gibbons said: "If she can find a length or two at the finish of her races she has a bright future and could win a big race.

"The way she is going now is a far cry from how she was early in her career.

"When she began racing I had my doubts about Foran Banner ever being more than 400m short course bitch but she has kept getting stronger.''

Tiggerlong Amy continued her love affair with Wentworth Park by coming from third early to win Saturday's opening event, a 520m fifth grade, in 30.22.

Trained at Dapto by Margaret Keys and her husband, GBOTA director Kevin Keys, Tiggerlong Amy won on debut at Wentworth Park in 30.04 and had been runner up in one of two races there prior to Saturday night's win.

"Tiggerlong Amy likes this track and she is a good chaser,'' Kevin Keys said later.

"I'm just a little disappointed she has not reproduced that quick first split of 5.41 which she clocked when she led all the way at her first Wenty outing on May 10.''

Training honours on Saturday night were shared by Margaret and Kevin Keys along with another husband and wife combination of John and Minnie Finn.

The Kevin Keys-trained Tiggerlong Car, an older half-sister to Tiggerlong Amy, made an impressive Wentworth Park debut to win Saturday's final event, a 520m fifth grade, in a slick 29.83.

John Finn won with Zipping Remus in a fast 29.75 while his wife Minnie prepared Zipping Foxy for victory in 30.27.

Zipping Remus, among the most exciting young sprinters in training, went into the race with a best WP time of 29.45 and Saturday's runaway win took his tally at headquarters to five wins from seven starts.
