She's A Pearl Win Number 24 At Headquarters

By Jeff Collerson
She's A Pearl avenged her last start defeat by Simply Limelight in emphatic style at Wentworth Park on Saturday night, running her rivals off their legs early and then hanging on tenaciously for a narrow win in the siresonice.com.au Free-For-All.

On the finish line Andy Lord's champion had a head to spare over the vastly under-rated Father Rick, while Simply Limelight, her conqueror at Wentworth Park on May 27, was one-and-a-half lengths away third.

Simply Limelight may have finished closer had he not taken the wrong option when in fourth spot leaving the back straight.

The usually keen railer attempted to go around Father Rick but when that dog drifted up the track, Simply Limelight lost ground and She's A Pearl skipped away.

For the winner it marked a remarkable 24 wins from 32 appearances at headquarters, and took her record on all tracks to 59 starts for 37 wins.

She's A Pearl

She's A Pearl covered the 520m in a best of the night 29.67, but her time was just .10sec slower than the figures posted by the Vic Sultana-trained Remember This, who produced a personal quickest 29.77 to lead throughout in a 520m fourth and fifth grade.

Remember This is from the first litter whelped by Sky Wave, who was a marvellous campaigner for Sultana, winning major finals at Bathurst, Maitland and Nowra and finishing third to Mystic Riot in the inaugural Million Dollar Chase at Wentworth Park in 2018.

Coight gave trainer Jimmy Higgins a quick return for his purChase price when he led throughout to win Saturday night's opening event, a 520m fifth grade.

Coight had recorded a win and nine placings in 13 previous Wentworth Park starts while trained by Higgins for owner-breeder Lakis Michael.

But just 48 hours before Saturday's meeting Michael sold Coight to his pal Higgins, who has been his friend for 45 years.

Michael said: "I had been getting pestered to sell Coight by another buyer but because Jimmy and I go back to our school days, when we even played football together, I wanted to give him the chance to make the purChase.''

Higgins, who trained the 2008 Peter Mosman Classic winner Lend Us Fifty, added: "Lakis looked after me, he sold me Coight for a lot less than he could have got from another buyer, and then the dog looked after me by winning tonight.''

Tangible Asset, the only dog in trainer Jimmy White's kennels, was having only his second race in six months when he led all the way in Saturday's GRNSW 1-4 Wins Final, 520m, in 30.01.

When Tangible Asset Chased home Bandit Bullet in his heat on June 3, he was having his first start since finishing fifth at Bulli on December 13.

White explained: "In late 2022 I was setting Tangible Asset for the group 1 Ladbrokes National Derby in January, but the dog tore a hip support in that Bulli race.

"I decided to give him a long break to recuperate and that really tested my patience but tonight's win makes the long wait well worth it.''

Even trainer Justin King was surprised when Copious began smartly before taking out Saturday night's second event, a 520m fifth grade.

Copious is a renowned slow beginner but gave his trainer a pleasant surprise when he stepped cleanly from box five and was second, behind tearaway leader Silver Session, at the first turn.

Copious ran into the rear of the pacemaker on the back straight but  finished best along the rails to win by two lengths in 30.01.

"That's the first time he has ever jumped like that,'' a beaming King said after the race.
