Rampant Win By "Very Fast Animal"

By Jeff Collerson
Former West Australian Rampani finally reproduced his brilliant trial form for Wagga trainer Peter Sims in a fastest time of the night performance at Wentworth Park on Saturday.

Rampani began only fairly from box six but bullocked his way through the leading division rounding the first turn to dash clear on the back straight.

Backed from $7 to $4.80, Rampani comfortably held off a strong finish by Zipping Osti to win by nearly two lengths in 29.90, his first victory in four Wentworth Park appearances.

Before the race trainer Peter Sims told thedogs.com.au: "Rampani is a very fast animal and I'm mystified why he has only managed two placings from three Wentworth Park races.

"He broke 24sec in a post-to-post slip at the track, and that is airborne, while he has trialled faster at Wagga than the quickest time ever recorded by my former top notch bitch Second Exit, who won 22 races and $136,000.''

Rampani's time for the 520m was .02sec superior to the figures posted by red hot favourite Chance Model, who sent punters home on a winning note by taking out Saturday's final event for trainer Steve Fairbairn.

The only other dog to break 30sec on Saturday night's track, which was described by two leading trainers as "soft" and "spongy", was Screaming Jet won took out the top grade event in 29.93.

The ultra consistent Screaming Jet took his tally to six wins, four seconds and a third from 13 starts for owner Arthur Langman and trainer Andy Lord, displaying deft footwork to notch his victory.

Screaming Jet (pictured) jumped well from box four but only just managed to avoid his wide running kennelmate Tommy Kade at the first turn before sweeping around tearaway leader Remember This to hit the front on the back straight.

Mork Vision, who had been placed in three of five previous Wentworth Park outings, scored a well-deserved win on Saturday, leading throughout from box eight in 30.25.

After the race trainer Carole Eaton said: "Mork Vision has such good early pace he is always going to be in with a chance, because so often there is scrimmaging behind the leader on the first turn.

"And he rails so well, on the home bend tonight I reckon he saved himself a length because he railed so beautifully.''

Ally Kade, a $26 outsider, continued trainer Peter Mattress' successful association with owner-breeder Peter Spiteri when she ran down pacemaker Rockin' Ronnie to win by a length in 30.24.

It was Ally Kade's fourth win in five appearances wearing the box eight pink rug and after the race Peter Mattress said: "I wasn't expecting her to do any better than perhaps fill a placing tonight but this breed certainly relish an outside draw.

"Ally Kade ran a good third from box seven at Gosford on May 30 while I won at The Gardens and at Gosford with her sister Ruby Kade, who is also raced by Peter Spiteri, in the past couple of weeks.''

Tom Roche predicted a bright future for Kiarni Black Ace, a son of his former smart bitch Kiarni Velvet, after the dog led from the first turn to win a 520m fifth grade in 30.17.

Roche, who breeds, owns and trains a small team at Kew, on the mid north coast, said: "Kiarni Black Ace is from the first litter whelped by Kiarni Velvet, who was a Wenty winner and who finished third in the 2018 Black Top at The Gardens behind Caitlyn Keeping.

"I expect her to make a really good brood bitch and she has a second litter sired by Feral Franky.''

Training honours on Saturday were with Andy Lord, who won with Bandit Bullet and Screaming Jet.
