Draw Perfect For Pearl To Continue Winning

By Jeff Collerson
Andy Lord has five strong prospects at Wentworth Park on Saturday night but believes the best drawn is champion She's A Pearl.

A winner of seven of her past eight starts, She's A Pearl has box seven in Saturday's star-studded Hunters Hill Rugby Club Free-For-All.

Lord summed it up this way: "Pearl has won five of her nine races from box seven and on Saturday she looks ideally positioned.

"Mia She's Fast, who has box eight, is a wide runner, box six is vacant, and then we've got Fascinate Mel, a brilliant beginner, in box five.

"Fascinate Mel seems likely to crowd the dogs drawn closer to the rails and I think all those factors should give She's A Pearl the run of the race.''

Lord's boom youngster One Hot Bandit , unbeaten in two Wentworth Park appearances, has won just once in three recent races at Nowra and Goulburn, but the Gunning trainer expects him to bounce back on Saturday.

One Hot Bandit has box four in race two, a 520m fifth grade, and Lord said: "Forget his sixth at Goulburn at his last start, interference put him out of that race.

"One Hot Bandit is a young dog and is still learning but so long as he stays out of trouble on Saturday night he will be winning.''

Lord is equally upbeat about the chances of Bandit Bullet, who has box five in race three, another 520m fifth grade.

"Bandit Bullet gets out and gets going and it will take a fast dog to lead him in the early stages at Wentworth Park,'' Lord said.

He added: "I also have Purring Along in box one in race five and Screaming Jet in box five in race seven.

"Screaming Jet is extremely under-rated and is a terrific chaser, I give him a great chance.

"Purring Along is well boxed but her best Wenty time has been 30.02 and that is about as good as she can go.''

Purring Along's toughest rival looms as Nordic Shiraz, who has box three in the Ladbrokes Mate Mode Final for bitches.

Nordic Shiraz and Purring Along filled the placings behind heat winner Glaski Poke at Wentworth Park on May 17 and Nordic Shiraz's trainer Susan Sundstrom believes she could be capable of improvement.

"Before the heats Nordic Shiraz had been given two box-to-box trials at WP but the May 17 race was the first time she had been right around the track,'' Sundstrom said.

"When she was disputing the lead with Purring Along on the back straight they seemed to hamper each other so I was happy with Nordic Shiraz's run.

"She had box eight in the heat but I am happier seeing her drawn closer to the rails, in box three, in Saturday's final.

"Hopefully she can come out quickly like she did in her heat because she will run straight from the boxes to the first turn.''

Kemps Creek trainer Jason Magri has the likely favourites in race nine (Zipping Osti), 10 (Zipping Digby) and 11 (Blue Boy Kade) and said: "They are all going well but each of them needs to jump cleanly.

"Zipping Digby has won his past five races and can win again provided he doesn't get pressured on his outside in the run to the first turn.

"If that happens he is likely to want to duck off the track.

"Blue Boy Kade is not badly boxed in six and he will also be hard to beat, but he has to jump good because when he misses the kick he wants to get very wide.''
