Model Of Consistency To Do It Again

By Jeff Collerson
Cartel Model's Wentworth Park tally of four wins and six placings makes the Andy Lord-trained dog look graded to take out Saturday night's NSW GBOTA Welcome Stakes.

Cartel Model is nicely positioned in box three in the 520m fifth grade and his seven opponents have managed a total of just four Wentworth Park victories.

Rocket Riot carved out a best time of the night 29.63 when he defeated Cartel Model at Wentworth Park on May 5, but Lord's greyhound clocked a tidy 29.94 in defeat.

Shanghai Suzie's 30.01 was a tick slower than Flash As Joe's 30.00 in the May 5 heats but the box draw could give her the edge in Saturday's gapnsw.com.au Final over 520m.

Trainer Greg Remfry said: "I think Shanghai Suzie can go a little quicker because she was in the first race last week and the track got faster as the meeting progressed.

"Box one is ideal for her because she is such a terrific railer.

"She won't leave the fence and if they are going to beat her they will have go around her.

"I have a healthy respect for Flash As Joe, he will be a tough opponent, but I'm hoping little Shanghai Suzie and get a break on him early.''

Michelle Sultana was hoping to have Aston Ulysses in a Masters race at Wentworth Park on Saturday night but because none was available she will start the former Victorian in the 520m Ladbrokes Blended Bets Free-For-All.

Sultana's partner Darryl Thomas said: "Aston Ulysses has a great draw in box eight and he is going exceptionally well.

"He can't lead Len Me Dad, who has box seven, in the early part of the race, but if Aston Ulysses can keep up he might be able to run that dog down.''

Sultana has prospects of a winning double as her outstanding sprinter Mr Determine goes into Saturday's siresonice.com.au Stakes, a 520m fourth and fifth grade, boasting 13 wins and eight placings from 24 starts.

Thomas said: "Mr Determine has to come out and then he has to get around Tommy Kade, a wide runner who has box two.

"But like Aston Ulysses, Mr Determine is going great for Michelle.''

Miss Mila ran into a budding superstar when a distant third to Like Wildfire at Gosford on Tuesday but should relish the drop in class when she makes her Wentworth Park debut in Saturday's eighth race, a 520m fifth grade.

Trainer Jeff Eaton said: "I previously took Miss Mila down to Wenty and gave her a post-to-post slip and she went well.

"She is usually a smart beginner so I was a bit disappointed she did not jump as well at Gosford on Tuesday.

"Miss Mila is a good railer and if she steps away like she normally does, I'm hoping she can get out in front and they won't catch her.

"I believe she will need to get well clear of Rebel Ethics, who is a 600m dog so is obviously going to be strong at the finish.''

The Peter Azzopardi-trained Ollie Impact has taken a liking to Wentworth Park, notching two wins and eight placings from his past 11 starts there, and could enhance that tally in Saturday's Ladbroke It! Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

Azzopardi's father Luke, a highly successful trainer for the past three decades, said: "Ollie Impact seems nicely drawn in box eight because from there he won't get crowded up and he will run in a straight line from the boxes to the first turn.''
