Boomer Should Be Value Okay

By Jeff Collerson
Okay Boomer had box one when she broke 30sec at Wentworth Park on April 5 but she handles outside draws equally as well and looks great value from box eight in Wednesday night's seventh race, a 520m fifth grade.

On April 5 Okay Boomer led throughout and won by five lengths in 29.91 from Nando Banner, who came out and won easily at Wentworth Park on April 19.

But Okay Boomer was desperately unlucky when second, from box two, three lengths astern of Hurricane's Fury at Wentworth Park last Saturday.

Okay Boomer began well but was severely hampered attempting to get wide and was pushed back to fourth position on the back straight.

She finished strongly and it is worth noting the Michael Smith-trained bitch had box eight when she won in a slick 22.54 over 400m at Maitland on January 16.

Michael Smith said: "Okay Boomer always wants to push off the track when she draws an inside box and gets crowded in the run to the first turn.

"She looks well positioned on Wednesday and if she can be up near the lead early she will be hard to beat because she is very strong at the end of 520m.''

Sweet City Gal has been unplaced in two Wentworth Park appearances since winning in a slick 29.95 on January 28 but trainer Craig Chappelow said she is going as well as ever as she goes to headquarters for Wednesday's sixth race, a 520m fifth grade.

"If she begins like she did at Richmond when she finished third to Zipping Vanessa in fast time at her last start Sweet City Gal will be hard to beat,'' Chappelow said.

"For some reason she doesn't get to the line as strongly at Richmond as she does at Wenty Park.

"But being drawn in box two on Wednesday is great because I always like to see her boxed near the rails, that's where she wants to be.''

Zipping Vanessa, who finished fast to defeat Inside Dart and Sweet City Gal in smart time at Richmond on April 21, clashes with her kennelmate Zipping Remus in Wednesday night's fifth event, another 520m fifth grade.

Zipping Vanessa clocked 29.85 over the Richmond 520m trip but Zipping Remus recorded a sizzling 29.55 winning at Wentworth Park on April 19.

Trainer John Finn's wife Minnie said: "It's disappointing to see them in the same race but over 520m I think Zipping Remus is definitely faster.''

"Zipping Vanessa is crying out for a middle distance because she is so strong but I can't see her beating her kennelmate.''

Zipping Remus will exit box fourth with Zipping Vanessa in six.

The all-conquering Finn kennel also has strong claims on Wednesday with Zipping Rousey, who has box four in the opening event, a 520m fifth grade, and with Zipping Mercedes, who will leave trap three in the 520m Ladbrokes Bet Ticker fourth grade.

At her first start Zipping Rousey began brilliantly and led throughout to win her heat of the group 3 Ladbrokes Magic Maiden at Wentworth Park on March 29 in a flying 29.68, reeling off early splits of 5.47 and 13.86.

She has not started since finishing fourth in One Hot Bandit's final on April 8 but Minnie Finn said she is fit and ready to win first up.

Zipping Mercedes lacks early speed but has not drawn closer than box four in her past eight races and rattled home when third, from box four, to group 1 winner Wyndra All Class at Wentworth Park on April 19.

"Zipping Mercedes has finally drawn a decent box,'' Minnie Finn declared.

"When she jumps she just wants to get straight over onto the fence so she badly needs an inside alley.''
