Another Sizzling Win For Mortified

By Jeff Collerson
Mortified, NSW's top contender for next month's $100,000 to the winner Sapphire Crown at Melbourne's Sandown, completed a rare hat-trick with her best of the night 29.40 performance at Wentworth Park on Saturday.

Chris O'Brien brilliant speedster led throughout to win the top grade 520m event by over seven lengths after reeling off dazzling early splits of 5.36 and 13.60.

It was the third successive Wentworth Park meeting in three weeks that Mortified has won in the fastest time of the meeting, after winning in 29.40 on April 1 and 29.37 on April 8, Golden Easter Egg final night.

Mortified's figures on Saturday were just .04sec quicker than the time posted by veteran Aston Ulysses, who led all the way to take out the Masters event by eight lengths.

Aston Ulysses turns five in November but trainer Michelle Sultana said: "He is just an old marvel.

"He is going better than ever, tonight's time was easily his best at Wenty, and he thrives on hard work.

"His mission is the $100,000 to the winner Masters Meteor at Wentworth Park in October and after that he will be retired.

"Aston Ulysses has been registered for stud and I will be certainly using him for any good bitches I own.''

Len Me Dad, who was sent out a $2.25 favourite for the Golden Easter Egg semi-final won by final victor Simply Limelight, scored a remarkable win at Wentworth Park on Saturday.

Len Me Dad missed the start and was never a chance in his April 1 Easter Egg semi but overcame an awkward getaway to win in a smart 29.64 on Saturday.

The Ruth Matic-trained dog stumbled at box rise before showing great pace to be second at the first turn, hitting the front on the back straight.

After the race Matic displayed a head-on screen shot of the start of the race which clearly shows Len Me Dad's legs splayed wide as he left the boxes.

Surprise of Saturday's Wentworth Park fixture was the fast 29.67 recorded by the Craig Chappelow-trained I'm Loving It, who led throughout after producing early splits of 5.44 and 13.87 and won easily.

"I'm Loving It has trialled 29.90 at Wenty and I thought with a clear run he was capable of getting down to 29.70 or so,'' Chappelow said later.

"He won his heat of the Ultra Sense at Wentworth Park on March 31 in 30.14 and I had given him a good chance in the final if he drew near the rails.

"But he came up with box eight and was run off the track at the first turn and finished sixth.''

Belmont Bullet continued his consistent form for trainer Joe McFadyen by nosing Gozo King out of a 520m fifth grade on Saturday in 30.16.

Belmont Bullet jumped smartly from box seven and led to the catching pen, before being headed by Gozo King on the back straight but regaining the lead on the home bend.

After the race Kat Ernst, Belmont Bullet's handler and Joe McFadyen's partner, said: "We're so pleased that Belmont Bullet has finally worked Wentworth Park out.

"Although he finished seventh in the Golden Easter Egg final on April 8 his run was better than that.

"Belmont Bullet jumped well from box seven but just could not get across the fast dogs drawn underneath him but he was able to clear them tonight.''
