No Dragging Of Boots For Sims

By Jeff Collerson
He races as Dragging BOOTS but the Peter Sims-trained youngster was far from dragging his feet when he gave She's A Pearl's newly minted track record a shake at Temora on Monday.

Having his first test beyond 330m, Dragging BOOTS, who turns two next month, rocketed over the 457m in 25.53, just .15sec outside the record set by the great She's A Pearl on March 12.

"Dragging BOOTS is a nice pup but he is still immature, he thinks lifeĀ  is one big game,'' trainer Peter Sims said.

"Except for a post-to-post slip at Wentworth Park he has not had a lot of work but he does everything at 100 miles per hour.

"As soon he was placed in the starting box on Monday he started barking, but what I like about him is when I got him out of his kennel at 5.30am on Tuesday, he looked as if he was ready to race again.''

Dragging BOOTS is a litter brother to Steel Lady and Steel Heels, who each won 330m maiden races for Sims at Temora.

Sims had a big day as he also won with 19 month old puppy Good Pub Feed, a son of American sire Need My Moneynow and Little Bit Slick, who won 10 of 22 starts for Greg Sprod and Tyrone Whittington, owners of Monday's Temora winner.

"Good Pub Feed took 18.81 to win on Monday but he did a few things wrong and is better than that time would suggest,'' Sims said.

"He trials 18.80 on a slow track and is two or three tenths quicker than Steel Lady and Steel Heels, who won over 330m for me on Monday in 18.85 and 18.70.''

Taking out four or five races at Temora is nothing new to Sims and he could have been unlucky not to land a fifth winner last Monday.

"I was confident I would win with Impress Rolls, who won first up for me over 457m at Temora in 26.01 on March 12, but he was a late scratching,'' Sims said.

"When he came out of the Temora kennels he was limping slightly and while the veterinary surgeon could find nothing wrong with him, I agreed to scratch him as a precaution.

"Later in the day Impress Rolls was jumping around as if there was nothing amiss so maybe he had been laying down on top of that leg in the kennels and it sort of went to sleep on him.

"He will go around at Temora next week and with any luck I'm confident he will break 26sec for the 457m.''

JODIE and Andy Lord won the Group 3 Ladbrokes Magic Maiden with Bandit Ned in 2021 and it is greyhound racing's worst kept secret that they have an unraced youngster ready to take out this year's April 8 final.

One Hot Bandit trialled 29.60 on a slow track over the Wentworth Park 520m Magic Maiden course before breaking 24sec in a post-to-post hand-slip there.

Then last week the dog again rocketed over the 520m, stopping the clock at 29.55.

Those figures are incredible given that Bandit Ned, later a group one winner, clocked 30.07, last year's winner Zipping Novak recorded 29.65, and the long-standing race record of 29.62 was set by Anything Less in 20.14.
