Mister O'Brien To Enhance His Wenty Win Record

By Jeff Collerson
Mister O'Brien won a fifth grade in 30.09 at Wentworth Park on March 8 but his second placing in a similar race there last Wednesday was even more impressive and he is boxed to enhance his record on Wednesday night at headquarters.

After winning a maiden race from box six in 30.65 at Wentworth Park on March 1 Mister O'Brien had box three in his fifth grade win before being a certainty beaten when second, from box eight, there last week.

He was last to leave the boxes and was hampered trying to reach the rails, finding fourth position at the half-way mark and then flashing home along the fence to be beaten a length.

Trainer Glen Bryen was understandably delighted when Mister O'Brien came up with box one in Wednesday's third event, a 520m fifth grade.

"It's about time!,'' Bryen said.

Each of Mister O'Brien's six races have been at Wentworth Park but in five of those appearances he has drawn poorly in boxes six and eight.

Bryen added: "He pulled up well after last week's second placing and had a gallop up the hill on Saturday to top him off for Wednesday night's race.

"He is ready to go but at this stage I'm inclined to by-pass the following Wednesday's heats of the group 3 New Sensation even though he is the right age for that series.''

Luke Azzopardi's son Peter won with Ollie Impact in a slick 29.99 at Wentworth Park on Saturday night and will be represented by that greyhound and his litter sister and kennelmate Freydis at headquarters on Wednesday.

Ollie Impact has box two in race five, a 520m fifth grade, while Freydis will exit box three in another 520m fifth grade, race two.

"Ollie Impact is in a lot harder race than he was in last Saturday but is very well drawn,'' Luke Azzopardi, himself a highly successful trainer, said.

"Freydis broke in a lot faster than Ollie Impact, in fact she looked like being outstanding when she was being educated.

"But she came in season and when we brought her back she took a long while to regain the form she had shown as a youngster.

"Her first look at Wentworth Park was in a post-to-post hand-slip and then, at her first 520m test, she made the pace when second behind Copious in 30.20 there on March 8.

"Freydis had her second crack at 520m at Richmond on March 17 and she went enormous, winning by over seven lengths in 30sec flat, fastest time of the day.

"After that race Minnie Finn told me she was surprised Peter and I had not saved Freydis for the Group 3 Magic Maiden heats at Wentworth Park on March 29.

"Ironically Minnie and her husband John train two of Freydis' toughest opponents in Wednesday's Wentworth Park race, ZIPPING Edith and Zipping Foxy.''

Euler Bale, who matched strides with boom Victorian speedster Rejuvenate in the early stages of their race at The Meadows on March 11, makes his Wentworth Park debut in Wednesday night's 520m Free-For-All.

The Debbie Coleman-trained Euler Bale showed good early pace at The Meadows and although he wound up second, six lengths behind Rejuvenate, his performance was a good trial for Wednesday night's Wentworth Park race.

Euler Bale has won eight of his 18 races and has won in fastest times of the meeting over 525m at The Meadows on November 30 and February 22 and over 450m at Ballarat on December 31.

When Sweet City Angel finished sixth at her Wentworth Park debut on February 25 she showed brilliant early pace but raced very wide going through the catching pen and dropped out of contention.

That resulted in a 21 days incapacitation certificate and she could make amends in Wednesday night's seventh event, a 520m fifth grade.

Before her first Wentworth Park appearance Sweet City Angel, a litter sister to 29.47 Wenty winner Comet A Cost, had won three successive Richmond 520m assignments in impressive fashion.
