Comet A Cost Could Be A New Sensation

By Jeff Collerson
Jason Magri is rarely without a "rocket" in his kennel and the Kemps Creek trainer's latest star Comet A Cost will earn a crack at the Group 3 New Sensation if he wins impressively at Wentworth Park on Wednesday night.

Unbeaten in two Wentworth Park  appearances, Comet A Cost has box one in the Get Yourself Trackside @ Wenty Stakes, a 520m fifth grade, and will be a long odds-on favourite.

At only his second start in two months Comet A Cost overcame a moderate getaway to lead at the first turn and win by eight lengths in a sensational 29.47 at Wentworth Park  last Wednesday.

Magri has earmarked the heats of the New Sensation, over 520m at Wentworth Park  on March 29, as the immediate goal for Comet A Cost.

The race is for greyhounds whelped on or after December 1, 2020, so Comet A Cost, who was whelped on December 18, is the perfect age for the race.

The New Sensation final, worth $40,000 to the winner, will be held at Wentworth Park  on April 8.

Train To Nowhere has been runner-up in two of his past three Wentworth Park races in a Free-For-All and a fourth and fifth grade so should relish dropping in class and tackling fifth graders on Wednesday night.

Train To Nowhere has box five in the 520m Join NSW GBOTA Online Today Stakes where he has only five rivals.

The dog's part-owner Gordon Sciberras said: "I was happy with his distant second to Canya Smoke Them in a much tougher race at Wentworth Park  last Wednesday.

"Before the race I thought the best we could hope for was second placing and Train To Nowhere was able to achieve that.

"His trainer Vic Sultana has always insisted there is a race for every greyhound and maybe this race on Wednesday is the one to suit Train To Nowhere.

"This dog used to be a brilliant beginner but while he does not come out quite as fast now, he does take a little step to the right when he jumps.

"So having a vacant box on his outside could help him a lot.''

The aptly-named Rothwell Horse came from last on the home bend when second at his Wentworth Park  debut last Saturday night and while the winner's time was slow the 40kg giant could improve sharply on Wednesday.

Rothwell Horse had box one last Saturday but could be better suited drawn wide in box seven this week.

"He had not previously seen Wentworth Park before Saturday so I was happy with his run,'' trainer Nathan Goodwin said.

"While I have always preferred him drawn near the rails on one-turn tracks, I think being such a big dog he may be better off boxed wide on a two-turn track like Wentworth Park.

"Rothwell Horse's chances depend on what sort of passage he gets during the race.

"Being so big, he can't cop a check or be disappointed when going for a run but if things go his own way and he gets a clear go he has abilty.''

Pink Tickles, north coast trainer Sharon Grey's brilliant beginner, is nicely boxed in two and should represent Rothwell Horse's toughest opponent.

Pink Tickles has made the pace in each of three Wentworth Park  appearances, winning twice, in 30.28 and 30.14.

Best value bet on Wednesday should be Zipping Ruckman, who is set to break through for his first Wentworth Park  win after being runner-up in each of three maiden races at headquarters.

The John Finn-trained dog, who has box eight in the NSW GBOTA Welcome Maiden, 520m, produced his best performance when a strong finishing second behind kennelmate Zipping Sylvia in a similar race at Wentworth Park  last week.

Zipping Ruckman exited box seven but was checked when a close third at the first turn and pushed back into a distant fifth position at the half-way mark.

He flashed home to go down by four lengths and should only need a clean getaway to open his winning account this week.

Mister O'Brien and Fred's Way, in boxes six and seven, are keen railers who should give Zipping Ruckman a clear run down the outside of the field in the charge to the first turn.
