Kewell Perfectly Positioned to Score

By Jeff Collerson
Lochinvar Kewell has been costly to punters when drawn in box four at his past two Wentworth Park starts but gets the chance to be their pin-up boy after coming up with box one there on Saturday night.

When Lochinvar Kewell exits the rails trap in the 520m Ladbroke It! Stakes, a 520m fifth grade, he will be wearing the red rug for the first time in 18 races.

Lochinvar Kewell's two Wentworth Park wins have been from boxes four and five but he was relegated to fourth and third at his two most recent appearances there, on December 30 and January 7.

"He has finally drawn a box,'' his relieved trainer Ruth King exclaimed.

"Lochinvar Kewell is a better dog than his form suggests and early in his career he was every bit as good as his kennelmate Lochinvar Lona, who has won a dozen races.

"Lochinvar Kewell did go off the boil slightly a while back but his two wins and a second from his past three starts at Dapto suggest he is back to his best.''

Ashley Dwyer's litter brother greyhounds Special Blend and Charlie's Jar have won 33 races and he is confident they can extend their winning record at Wentworth Park on Saturday night.

Special Blend has box five in heat four of the Ladbrokes Road To The Egg Stakes while Charlie's Jar has drawn two in heat five.

"These are fifth grade races so they are both well placed,'' trainer Dwyer said.

"Special Blend finished fifth to French Martini in very fast time over 603m at Gosford last Saturday but he lost all chance when he was pole-axed soon after the start.

"I have kept him on the lead since and he will be suited by having only five rivals in Saturday night's much easier race.

"Charlie's Jar is an outside draw specialist but he has plenty in his favour on Saturday night even though he has drawn box two.

"Garden Party, who had box one, has been scratched, and Charlie's Jar has a vacant box on his outside so he should get plenty of room to move.''

Impress Dressel, in a rich vein of form with two wins and a second over 450m at Grafton at his past three starts, looks Saturday night's best value wager after drawing box one in heat three of the Ladbrokes Road To The Egg Stakes.

Now trained at Grafton by Dave Irwin, Impress Dressel came from third on the home bend to run down the crack short course speedster Cataclysmic at Grafton last Sunday.

His time of 25.30 compared well with the time standard for the meeting, a near record 25.06 posted by recent Ladbrokes National Derby runner-up Starline Express.

Impress Dressel is better suited by 520m than he is over 450m and his personal best Wentworth Park figures of 29.82 are .15sec faster than the best time recorded by his nearest rival Elle Yeah.

Elle Yeah is a last start Wentworth Park winner in 30.07 but her problem is she rarely jumps cleanly at Wentworth Park.

Saturday night's best bet looms as Mia She's Fast, whose should have no trouble improving on her already wonderful Wentworth Park record in the 520m Wag Pet Foods Stakes, a fourth and fifth grade.

The Frank Hurst-trained Mia She's Fast has recorded three wins and five seconds from 10 Wentworth Park outings and comes into this race after a good third behind She's A Pearl and Scramjet in a much tougher race at Gosford last Saturday.
