He's Perfect But Not Clear Cut

By Jeff Collerson
Mister Perfect's 29.72 posted in his 13 lengths winning romp was clearly fastest of the 520m heats but a tricky box draw has made Saturday night's gotcha4life.org 1-3 Wins Final at Wentworth Park far from clear cut.

Mister Perfect, who had box one in his heat, has drawn box seven, while second fastest qualifier Not Wanted, who also wore the red rug in her heat win, has come up with box five.

To make things even more intriguing, the other heat winner, Wilson's Pick, who jumped brilliantly and raced wide to win her heat in 30.25 from box seven, has drawn four.

Another wide runner Despicable Knows, will exit box one, so luck on the first corner could be the deciding factor.

Mister Perfect is among the most exciting prospects in Australia, but his tendency to miss the jump can be a problem.

His trainer Michelle Sultana said: "Although my dog ducked off on the first turn in his heat, I would far prefer him drawn inside.

"If he misses the kick I'm hoping he can reach the rails without finding too much trouble, although it would be marvellous if he just happened to nail the start.

"But I guess it all depends on what the other dogs do on the first corner.''

Saturday night's best bet looks to be Lightnin' Ethics, who, despite drawing box four in race eight, a 520m fourth and fifth grade, is considered well positioned by her trainer Peter Rodgers.

"Lightnin' Ethics has jumped brilliantly to win each of her past three starts and on Saturday she has an empty box on her left while Fascinate Mel, who has drawn outside her in five, is a good beginner but gets wide,'' Rodgers said.

"After Saturday night I have to organise a trial at Albion Park for Lightnin' Ethics because I am confident she can win the Bogie Leigh Futurity there next month.''

Lightnin' Ethics' only serious rival on Saturday looms as Zipping Orlando, but the winner of six from eight Wentworth Park appearances has drawn poorly in box seven.

Minnie Finn, whose husband John trains Zipping Orlando, said: "Our dog just can't draw a box lately.

"Zipping Orlando is going great but while the small field on Saturday night will help him, these days he seems to be looking for longer than 520m.''

Silly Tilly finished only sixth at Wentworth Park on Wednesday night but the superbly bred bitch is capable of breaking through for her first city win in Saturday night's second event, a 520m fifth grade.

Silly Tilly has been unplaced in two Wentworth Park outings but is a litter sister to Wyndra All Class, who has won eah of her past five Wentworth Park races.

Trainer Ruth Matic said: "Silly Tilly was in a much tougher race on Wednesday when she found a bit of trouble soon after the start and while she is no world beater she gets her chance on Saturday.

"She has trialled 29.98 at WP so should be capable of winning a race or two there.''

Hardest for Silly Tilly to beat is likely to be the speedy Bali Lava, who led throughout to win a 365m maiden at Nowra on Monday.

Trainer Steve Fairbairn believes Bali Lava, who was placed in 520m races at Nowra in September and October, has the early dash to be the pacemaker on Saturday.

Kemps Creek trainer Jason Magri, who landed a winning treble at Wentworth Park on Wednesday with Blue Boy Kade, Zambora Ted and Zipping Kansas, should send punters home happy on Saturday by taking out the final event with Unlike You.

A winner of five from 15 appearances, including three from 10 at Wentworth Park, Unlike You's lack of early zip has resulted in him being runner-up at each of his past three starts at headquarters.

But on Saturday Unlike You is well drawn in box seven and should relish having just five opponents.
