GRNSW Announces Update To Travel Subsidy Policy for Abandoned Meetings

By GRNSW
Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) has today announced favourable changes to its race day cancellation policy relating to the payment of travel subsidies to trainers.

Effective from December 1, GRNSW will pay trainers travel subsidies of $60 per greyhound when a meeting is abandoned after official scratchings have been declared for that meeting.

GRNSW Chief Executive Officer Mr Rob Macaulay said:

“Previously, as trainers know, if a race meeting was abandoned three or more hours before the scheduled start time of the first race, then no travel subsidies were paid.

“The changes to our policy, supported by the GRNSW board, will in effect mean that from the moment official scratchings are declared, then trainers will be paid travel subsidies even if the meeting is abandoned.

“This solves any potential situation where trainers are already on the road and travelling to a meeting that is called off three hours before the first race is scheduled.

“We respect that there are instances where trainers may be travelling long distances to race their greyhounds, and from time to time may already be enroute to the destination when they learn that a meeting is abandoned three or more hours before the first scheduled race.”
