Vale – William (Bill) Bates

Bill Bates, one of greyhound racing's identities on the South Coast of NSW, passed away on Sunday 20th November 2022.

Bates was based in Shellharbour and was best known for greyhounds that raced with the ‘Springbill’ and  ‘Hayville’ monikers. Bill had tremendous success from over forty years of training at venues such as Wentworth Park, Dapto, Bulli, and Nowra.

Bates was a long-standing Committee member of the Dapto Greyhound Racing Club, and was afforded life membership of that club as a reward for many tireless hours volunteering for the club. There wasn’t an event that was held at Dapto showground without Bill and his family supporting it.

Bill will be remembered for his generosity and friendship to all and was always on call to assist anyone who needed a hand.

GRNSW wishes to pass on its sincere condolences to Bill Bates' family and friends.
