Box 8 To Suit Zambora Ted

By Jeff Collerson
HE is already the fastest dog to race over the Richmond 401m trip and on Wednesday night Zambora Ted will make his keenly anticipated first appearance over the Wentworth Park 520m journey.

Zambora Ted, who set a new Richmond 401m record of 22.37 when he won two months ago, has box eight in Wednesday's first heat of the Ladbroke It! Dogs Only series.

Since his record breaking performance on September 16, Zambora Ted has hardly put a foot wrong, winning five of his eight races and posting a slick 26.41 when stepped up to 472m at Bulli on October 25.

Trainer Jason Magri said: "I think he is ready to go 520 metres because I trialled him over the Wenty 520m trip recently and he clocked 30.05.

"He got a bit tired in the run home but I was very happy with how he went.

"On Wednesday night Zambora Ted has to be the pacemaker if he is going to win but he should be capable of getting to the front quickly.

"Box eight is better than being in the middle but he is a funny dog, sometimes he tends to crash to the rails but at other times he will run straight.

"With a clean getaway though he should have the pace to be able to clear his opponents by the first turn.

"My main concern is that he puts himself in front of Zipping Sterling at the first turn.

"When he won at Wentworth Park from box two last Wednesday Zipping Sterling ran wide on the bend so I want Zambora Ted to get ahead of him before the corner looms up.''

Copious, a litter brother and kennelmate to trainer Kerry Drynan's bonny bitch Reflections, resumes from a three months' break in Wednesday's opening event, the 520m GBOTA Welcome Maiden.

Copious was a fast finishing runner-up in two of four Wentworth Park appearances in July and August, recording a personal best time of 30.37.

Reflections boasts an impressive Wentworth Park record of six wins, four seconds and two thirds from 14 starts, but Copious does not possess his sister's brilliant early speed.

"Copious lacks early pace but does his best work at the back end of his races,'' trainer Kerry Drynan said.

"He is coming back from a break but is going as well as he was in his previous campaign.

"Box one should suit him and I'm just hoping he can hold his line in the run to the first turn and put himself into a reasonable position in the early stages.''

There isn't a better boxed runner at Wentworth Park on Wednesday than the Frank Hurst-trained Mia She's Fast, who will wear the pink rug in the gotcha4life.org third heat of the bitches' series over 520m.

Mia She's Fast made the pace at Wentworth Park on November 5 before being run down and beaten under a length by Sandstorm Rico in 30.03.

Then last Saturday night she was second all the way, chasing the flying Coin Model who covered the 520m in 29.63, fastest time of the night, running home in an outstanding 11.60.

Mia She's Fast did herself no favours in those races by running very wide from her inside draws, box one on November 5 and box two last Saturday.

At her only outing from a wide draw Mia She's Fast won over 400m at Bulli on September 13 when having her first race start.

Mia She's Fast appeals as Wedneday's best value bet while the star wager for the night should be Coin Model in the first heat of the series for bitches, the Where Else But Wenty? Stakes, 520m.

Coin Model was slightly disappointing when placed in one of two Wentworth Park races from inside boxes before appearing to relish her wide box six draw in her runaway 29.63 win last Saturday.
