Mister Perfect To Face Tough Test On Wednesday

By Jeff Collerson
Mister Perfect produced one of the most dazzling debut performances seen at Wentworth Park when he won by 11 lengths in fast time last week but must cope with a tricky draw and tougher opposition in Wednesday night's Boomalads Stakes.

Last Wednesday the Michelle Sultana-trained Mister Perfect, having only his second race and his first start in five months, overcame a tardy getaway to win a 520m fifth grade by 11 lengths in 29.80, outstanding time for an inexperienced youngster.

After his slow start from box two he accelerated along the rails and pounced on the lead leaving the first bend when pacemaker Flying Tiny Tim ran wide and gave him enough space to display his talent.

Wednesday night's race is also a fifth grade but Mister Perfect has drawn box eight and the presence of Velocity Stevie, chasing her fourth successive win, and proven Wentworth Park performer Zipping Sterling, make it appear a much tougher assignment.

Velocity Stevie achieved her first success over 400m at Bulli in fast time on October 18 and followed that with another quick win over the same course a week later before stepping up to 472m and winning again, this time in a handy 26.67 on November 1.

She has not raced at Wentworth Park but Glen Goodwin, whose wife Robyn trains Velocity Stevie, revealed their greyhound has been well schooled for her city debut.

"Velocity Stevie has had three trials at Wenty, a couple of post-to-post slips and a box-to-box hit-out,'' Goodwin said.

"We think she is capable of clocking around the 30sec mark at this stage, but would have preferred her drawn closer to the rails than box seven.

"She is a daughter of Barcia Bale and our 2018 Peter Mosman Classic winner Velocity Liberty and the whole litter want inside boxes.''

Zipping Sterling has recorded 30.06 at Wentworth Park and is well placed in box two.

He tends to dwell at the start but was unlucky when a distant but fast finishing third to Canya Style in 29.85 at Wentworth Park last Wednesday after being checked at the first turn pushed back to sixth spot on the back straight.

She's Airborne has been placed just once in four Wentworth Park appearances but trainer Michael Hardman believes she is ready to open her city account from box one in Wednesday night's Where Else But Wenty? Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

She's Airborne was a distant third there from box two on September 29 but has been unplaced in two subsequent outings.

"After her last run I gave her a month off because she wasn't going as well as I thought she was capable of going,'' Hardman said.

"Since I brought her back she has had a short slip at Wentworth Park and she went better than she has gone previously, while after that I trialled her over 350m at Goulburn and she clocked 19.80.

"I was happy with that time and box one should suit her on Wednesday because she is desperate for the fence.''

At Wentworth Park last Saturday Darkseid was a fast finishing third behind group one runner-up Canya Wilder and Fast Reason, conqueror of She's A Pearl at her previous start.

Darkseid's effort was eye-catching as the new addition to trainer Jason MACKAY's kennels was having her first start at Wentworth Park and was a pointer to Wednesday night's Ladbrokes Easy Form Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

"I rarely send a dog to Wentworth Park without a trial on the track but I had been unable to get Darkseid down there for a look at the track so was happy with his run on Saturday,'' MACKAY said.

"He is no world beater but I believe he is capable of winning a couple of low grade races at Wenty.

"Darkseid has box five on Wednesday but he is a good railer and if he finds the fence he should be hard to beat.''

Simply Limelight has seldom competed in anything but group or top class races at Wentworth Park and gets his chance after dropping to fourth and fifth grade in Wednesday's 520m Ground Dog Day Classic Sat Stakes.

Simply Limelight has scored nine wins and 12 placings from 22 Wentworth Park appearances while his seven rivals have accumulated only nine victories at headquarters.
