Jimmy Hoping His Asset Impresses

By Jeff Collerson
Tangible Asset can earn a crack at the Young Star Classic heats at Wentworth Park on September 17 by impressing trainer Jimmy White in Saturday night's Rewrite The Stars Stakes, a 520m fifth grade at headquarters.

Tangible Asset has had just five starts for three wins and two placings and while he has not raced for a fortnight White said the dog is ready to go.

"After he finished third at Wenty on August 20 I gave him a week off because I want to see him tackle the Young Star series,'' White said.

"I realise it will be a big step up in class for him but Tangible Asset is the right age for that race and while he will be against some outstanding young dogs he deserves a chance.

"I took him to Dapto on Monday and gave him a 400m hit-out to tune him up for Saturday night.

"My mate and I bought Tangible Asset when he was 12 weeks old and chose him ahead of his litter mates because while the other pups were sitting quietly he was tearing around the yard.

"I reckoned the black puppy (Tangible Asset) looked as if he is already on a racetrack so we took him home.

"He is not a great beginner because he stands up in the boxes, he doesn't crouch down like fast starters do.

"But he usually gets away reasonably well and although he has box four on Saturday, having an empty box on his outside will help him.''

Maldini's last win was over 350m at Goulburn in February but Ruth Matic, whose daughter Danielle trains the greyhound, believes drawing box one on Saturday night can put their dog back into the winning list.

Maldini will wear the red rug in the 520m second and third grade Masters event after finishing fourth in far tougher races at his past two Wentworth Park outings.

"He needs an inside box desperately so I'm very happy seeing him in one,'' Ruth Matic said.

"His past two Wenty runs from boxes three and four were okay without being great but his third in a 400m race at Bulli on August 23 was a terrific run.

"Box one makes a big difference to Maldini because he has never been a good dog in a field.

"He is a keen chaser but tends to do some dumb things in a race, that's why the rails suits him so well.''

Fascinate Trump had not seen Wentworth Park before he raced there on August 24 but made light of that inexperience to lead quickly and winning by six lengths in a smart 29.96.

"He pulled up well after that race and I expect him to go close to winning again on Saturday night at Wenty,'' trainer Noelene Holloway said.

Fascinate Trump, who has had three wins and a third from his past four races beyond 500m, has box six in the Vale Gary McKenna Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

Noelene Holloway added: "I don't think box six will worry Fascinate Trump on Saturday because he had box seven when he won first up at Wenty at his latest start.

"He has always been capable of recording fast first and second splits and has so much power in the middle of his races as well.''
