Wyndra To Show Her Class

By Jeff Collerson
When Wyndra All Class made her debut from box one on August 17 at Wentworth Park she was the biggest "street corner" tip of the year and was sent out a $1.60 favourite on reports of a sizzling 520m trial at the track.

But Wyndra All Class bungled the start completely and "lost" the first turn, veering off the track and colliding before winding up a distant sixth.

The Daniel Gatt-trained 21 months old juvenile returns to Wentworth Park in Wednesday night's 520m NSW GBOTA Welcome Maiden and is certain to be a hot favourite again.

Daniel Gatt said: "Wyndra All Class is a nice bitch, she goes really good and got under 29.80 in a trial at Wentworth Park.

"But she did everything wrong on race night and that often happens with greyhounds having their first actual race, as opposed to a solo trial.

"For young dogs coming to Wenty to race can be a totally different experience, they are kennelled in strange surroundings then they have to compete against other dogs.

"Hopefully what Wyndra All Class learned from that first race will do her the world of good, because she certainly has a lot of ability.''

Wyndra All Class looks reasonably well drawn on Wednesday, as she has drawn box five but will enjoy the luxury of having a vacant box on her outside.

Zipping Alabama (pictured) is better known as a stayer but the John Finn-trained bitch should only need a gram of luck to take out Wednesday night's Ladbrokes Bet Ticker Stakes, a 520m fourth and fifth grade.

Zipping Alabama has had three wins and six placings from a dozen 520m appearances and boasts a personal best Wenty sprint time of 29.79.

Last Saturday night she was desperately unlucky when second, beaten a length, by Fantastic Raven in a top grade 520m Wentworth Park event.

After being fourth at the first turn and third leaving the back straight, Zipping Alabama "took off" from the home bend but collided half-way down the straight before clocking a smart 29.86 in defeat.

She meets far weaker opposition on Wednesday and while she moves from her ideal box one slot last Saturday to box six this week, she should relish having a vacant box on her left.

Her trainer John Finn should land another winner as his sensational youngster Zipping Orlando, unbeaten in four starts, will be long odds-on in the 520m fifth grade Bui Bui Louis Louis Stakes.

Rockstar Lopez, who ran off and collided at the first turn from box one when fifth at her Wentworth Park debut last Wednesday, gets her chance this week from a more suitable box seven draw in race 10, a 520m fifth grade.

"Before she raced at Wentworth Park last week Rockstar Lopez had been given two box-to-box trials there so she knew her way around the track,'' trainer Chris Nutt said.

"She will run straight from box seven on Wednesday but is no world beater, I think the best she can get down to is 30.20 or 30.30.

"Her sister Rockstar Caballo is ideally drawn in box one in Wednesday's fifth race, a 520m fifth grade, and while she has not raced at Wenty she has also had a couple of box-to-box trials there.

"Rockstar Caballo has good early speed and from box one I expect her to be the pacemaker, but she is opposed to some red hot fifth graders and might need the experience over 520m.''
