Vale - John Gorman

By Jeff Collerson
John Gorman was not a trainer or even an owner but the Northern Rivers greyhound racing stalwart will be sorely missed after passing away on Friday night, aged just 49.

Grafton club president John Corrigan said: "Everyone who raced greyhounds at Grafton, Casino and Lismore, soon got to know John Gorman.

"He was one of those unsung heroes of our sport who rarely miss a race meeting but are always available to lend a hand to trainers needing assistance with their dogs on trial or race days.

"John was often sought after by visiting trainers during our big carnivals, people like Neil Staines from Yass, John Buttsworth from Bathurst, and Bendigo's Noel Massina, were often helped out with their teams by John Gorman.

"John Gorman began attending Northern Rivers greyhound meetings as a kid with his father Ross, who was a keen punter and regular racegoer at our local meetings.

"Sadly John did not enjoy the best of health throughout his life, but he never complained.

"After suffering an aneurism and a stroke last week we have lost him, and he will be missed terribly by not only local trainers but especially by out of town and interstate visitors.''

Greyhound Racing NSW offers sincere condolences to John’s family and friends at this sad time.
