Jack Looks Perfectly Placed In The Red

By Jeff Collerson
When he last drew box one at Wentworth Park Showman Jack won by five lengths in the best time of the night and he should complete the double after coming up with the rails alley in Wednesday night's Ladbrokes Mates Mode Stakes.

Showman Jack looks ideally positioned in this 520m fifth grade as Hot Streak, who has box two, has pace but is not a tight fencer while Holistic Key, in three, is better known as a stayer.

Since his sizzling 29.77 winning romp at Wentworth Park on July 10, Showman Jack has been unplaced at Wentworth Park and Bulli, but there were excuses for both defeats.

He missed the jump and found trouble in each of those losses and trainer John Smart has revealed Showman Jack trialled brilliantly at his latest visit to Wentworth Park.

"I entered him for the Wenty meeting on August 3 but it was abandoned after the dogs were kenneled so we were given the option of giving our greyhounds a hit-out,'' Smart said.

"The races had been cancelled due to problems with the starting boxes so I gave Showman Jack a post-to-post slip and he clocked 24sec flat, just about as quick as he has ever gone.''

Hardaway Bandit, who has won seven races from 18 starts at the provincials, is tipped to go well when he makes his Wentworth Park debut in Wednesday's winningedgeinvestments.com Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

The hefty 37kg Hardaway Bandit is trained by Ron Marsden, who, despite living at suburban Condell Park, rarely brings a dog to Wentworth Park.

"I only come to Wenty when I have a dog I think would be suited there and good enough to win,'' Marsden said.

"Hardaway Bandit has won six of his seven races up the straight at Richmond but he clocked a fast 22.18 over 400m at Bulli at his only circle track success.

"I gave him a post-to-post slip at Wentworth Park recently and he clocked a handy 24.31 but then I took him back for a 520m trial and he recorded 30.01, good time for a newcomer.

"What surprised me was that Hardaway Bandit produced a first split of 5.40 because I didn't expect him to show so much early pace.

"He has box seven on Wednesday and while it does seem to be a winnable race, I would have been more confident if he had drawn an inside box.''

Good Odds Cash will wind up her National Sprint Championship campaign when she exits box eight in Wednesday's 520m Free-For-All.

Although she has won three from nine races wearing the pink rug, Good Odds Cash seems nicely placed as Jabeni and ZIPPING Demand, who have drawn boxes five and seven, are slow beginners, while box six is vacant.

Good Odds Cash had box eight when fourth in Simply Limelight's roughly run NSW Sprint Championship at Wentworth Park on August 11 but was desperately unlucky in that far tougher assignment.

Hottest favourite of the night looks set to be Silver Luck, who has box one against six rivals in the 720m Mixed Stakes.

Silver Luck has been placed in each of two Wentworth Park long-distance outings, from boxes six and two, but his opposition on Wednesday is weaker and he has won two of three races wearing the red rug.
