Super Mum Chrystal Gets Gardens Double

By Jeff Collerson
CHRYSTAL Hensing is greyhound racing's new supermum after training a winning double at LADBROKES GARDENS on Friday, just 18 days after giving birth to her baby daughter, Isabella.

Hensing won with Jett The Best, named after her son Jett, and Ollie's Mum Sam, owned by Sydney businessman John Clout.

Not surprisingly, Hensing did not attend Friday's race meeting, but continues to train her team of four experienced race dogs and 11 up-and-coming youngsters.

"Kent Strongman, who works for me on the property at Wyee and my son Jett took the greyhounds to The Gardens,'' Hensing said.

John Clout praised Hensing and also Strongman, saying: "Kent worked for Chrystal's late husband Troy Donaldson, and he continues to help out on her property seven days a week.

"Jett The Best has won each of his three starts but because he has been riddled with injuries throughout his career he turns four December, 2018 .

"He is by Fabregas from Iona Champion while Ollie's Mum Sam, the bitch I own, is from Iona Champion's litter to Fernando Bale whelped in January, 2020.

"Olllie's Mum Sam has now won four of her past six starts and although she races at 24 or 25kg, she is a really wide runner.

"She gets her name though my grandson, Oliver, and my daughter-in-law Sam.

"Ollie's Mum Sam tackles a middle distance at Gosford on Tuesday but because she has box three she will give the greyhounds drawn inside her plenty of room to move.''

Iona Champion, the dam of Hensing's Gardens winners, was originally trained by Troy Donaldson and among her wins was a slick 29.96 victory at WP in March, 2015.

She has been an outstanding producer and is also the dam of Oh Mickey, who won 18 of 33 starts including the 2020 group 1 National Derby at WP.
