Origin Greyhound Squads Announced

By GRNSW
New South Wales have named a strong initial squad of 25 for this year’s TAB Origin Greyhound Series again Queensland.

The series will be run at Albion Park on July 14 consisting of two $75,000 Group 3 races - the Origin Sprint and Origin Distance - along with the Listed Origin Match Race.

In total, nine greyhounds will represent NSW against Queensland next month - four in the sprint, four in the distance race and one in the match race - with each state naming their preliminary squads of 25 on Friday.

NSW is looking to defend the title it won in 2021 when - after Barsandi won the distance race for NSW and Orchestrate the sprint for Queensland - the Jack Smith-trained Jungle Deuce defeated Extra Malt in the match race to claim the series and shield for NSW.

Despite recovering from a fall upon his racetrack return earlier this month at Gunnedah, Jungle Deuce has been named in the NSW squad along with star sprinters She’s A Pearl, Good Odds Cash, Zipping Kyrgios, Bandit Ned, Zipping Maserati, and up and comers Respectability and French Martini.

In the distance squad are Ladbrokes 715 placegetters Sound Of Silence and Cawbourne Magic, along with the enigmatic Zipping Kansas, Stanley Road, Cool Bourbski, Line Of Quality, Tiger Jack, Super Estrella and Tania Keeping.

Dogs from outside the squads are able to be drafted into the final teams if their form is warranted over the coming weeks, before final teams will be selected on July 11.
