Pete Has Some Handy Finalists On MDC Night

By Jeff Collerson
French Martini not only clocked fastest time in the heats of the group 3 Evans & Son Jewellers Ladies Bracelet on Saturday but her sizzling 29.73 performance was quickest of the 11-race Wentworth Park.

However trainer Peter Lagogiane cautioned that French Martini, who has now had four wins from six starts, will need to begin smartly if she is to win Saturday night's Bracelet final.

"She has come up with box five and with a lot of pace inside her French Martini is going to have come out cleanly,'' Lagogiane said.

French Martini's first split was a nippy 5.46 but second quickest qualifier Ties That Bind, who covered the 520m in 29.87, recorded a dazzling 5.37 initial section.

Ties That Bind has drawn box three in the final with the other heat winners McKeon Bale (30.07) and Bandit Jane (30.32) drawing boxes one and four respectively.

McKeon Bale's Victorian trainer Daniel Gibbons was not at Wentworth Park but the greyhound's handler was thrilled when she drew box one in the final.

He said: "McKeon Bale clocked a very fast 29.28 at Sandown on April 21 and had not seen Wentworth Park before Tonight as she did not trial at the track.

"She is a very good bitch who had box four in her heat and box one in the final will suit her perfectly.''

Slowest heat winner Bandit Jane is trained by Jodie Lord, so is a kennelmate to Million Dollar Chase favourite She's A Pearl along with Coast Model and Doonan, who are also MDC finalists.

Bandit Jane may have clocked slow time on Saturday but her run was full of merit, as she was badly checked leaving the back straight and would have been a certainty beaten had she lost.

Jodie Lord's Grim Madara drew box one in Saturday night's other feature event, the group 3 Bob Payne Sprint, after running down Spring GONZALES to win his heat in 30.23.

Fastest Bob Payne heat winner was Quinlan Bale, a son of Feral Franky and kennelmate and litter brother of Bracelet heat winner McKeon Bale.

Quinlan Bale made full use of box one to win his Bob Payne heat in 30.07 and like his kennelmate had not been trialled or raced at Wentworth Park before Saturday night.

Quinlan Bale has drawn box three in the final while the Peter Lagogiane-trained Robotnik won his heat in 30.11.

From box four Robotnik veered out at the start and collided heavily with hot favourite Simply Limelight (box five) virtually putting that dog out of the race.

Robotnik, a son of Lagogiane's former top class sprinter Beast Unleashed, was third on the back straight and took the lead coming to the home bend to win by three lengths from the desperately unlucky and fast finishing Simply Limelight.

"Tonight was the first time Robotnik has got away cleanly in nine starts,'' Lagogiane said later.

"He comes out well in trials but on race night usually misses the kick.

"Robotnik is still learning but is improving all the time.''
