Interstaters Invade Wenty For Qualifiers

By Jeff Collerson
Wow She's Fast has earned almost $1 million after just a dozen races so it's no wonder the Sydney-owned but Melbourne-trained wonder bitch is the star attraction on Saturday night's mouth-watering card at Wentworth Park.

The fourth running of the Million Dollar Chase gets serious on Saturday with five city qualifying races, which will see placegetters advance to the semi-finals at Wentworth Park on Friday, April 29.

Wow She's Fast, raced by Sydneysiders Tyrone Whittington and Greg Sprod but trained by Victorian ace Kel Greenough, has drawn box seven in the fifth Million Dollar Chase qualifying heat.

"I gave her a box-to-box trial at Wentworth Park last Tuesday and Wow She's Fast clocked 5.41, 13.82 and 17.88,'' Greenough said.

"They tell me those times are pretty quick so considering she had just come off a 12 hour car trip and had not previously seen the track I am happy with how she went.

"Although she has drawn wide on Saturday and is a good railer, Wow She's Fast has so far been able to handle outside boxes with no trouble.

"The draws have not been very kind to her but while she hasn't been blessed with a lot of good boxes she seems to have got used to that situation.

"Wow She's Fast is up against the Perth Cup winner Vice Grip in box eight and while I don't know a lot about him his WA form is very smart.

"When he was racing in Victoria earlier in his career he was good without being too flash but he seems to have gone to another level since moving to WA.''

Greenough also has Levitation in the third MDC qualifier and was happy with how she trialled at her first Wentworth Park appearance last Tuesday.

"She only went two lengths slower than Wow She's Fast so that was pleasing,'' Greenough said.

Victorian trainer Jason Thompson has revealed there were excuses for Equalizer being beaten into third placing in his semi-final of the Golden Easter Egg at Wentworth Park on April 2.

Equalizer (pictured), who has box three in Saturday's first MDC qualifier, was beaten less than two lengths by Fantastic Raven but Thompson said the dog finished the race with his muzzle wedged into his mouth.

"I think it happened when he got checked on the back straight because I noticed it when he came down the home straight, the muzzle was jammed into his mouth,'' Thompson said.

"Equalizer is well drawn in box three on Saturday and I expect him to run a big race.

"I also have Plaintiff in the second MDC heat and although he has not seen Wenty I think he has the box manners and pace to offset that disadvantage.

"Plaintiff usually comes out quick and heads to the fence so he is well positioned in box three.

"Big Opal Rocks, another Victorian dog, has box two but his strengths are his second splits and the way he gets to the line so hopefully Plaintiff can beat him to the first turn.''

Plaintiff's toughest rival looms as Zippy Tesla, who has been runner-up in two of four Wentworth Park appearances but who will relish the small field of seven due to his lack of early speed.

Most open of the MDC qualifiers appears to be the fourth run-off, where Ultra Sense winner Castle Warrior faces his toughest test against well performed Victorian trio Daph's Ascend (box six), Good To Go (seven) and Kaheem Bale (eight).

Castle Warrior has box one and is drawn to be the pacemaker but he will need to steal a big early break to hold out the visitors.
