Ladbrokes Million Dollar Chase

MDC Regional Heats Continue Today

By Jeff Collerson
It’s the turn of the Bathurst and Maitland clubs to host their TAB Million Dollar Chase events with heats to be held today at both venues.

Bathurst – the club which back in 2019 had their Regional Final won by eventual MDC Grand Final winner Good Odds Harada - host a 520m regional heat this afternoon with Goulburn trainer Mick Hardman strongly represented by Springview Magic (box one), Analysing (box four) and Chase Me Honey (box eight).

"I can't separate my three but if I had to have a pick I'd tip Analysing, because she doesn't mind being drawn a bit away from the fence and she goes so well at Bathurst,'' Hardman said.

At Maitland, local trainers Brad and Charmaine Field had four of the 13 entries, but race morning scratchings have seen that number halved.

In heat one Charmaine’s Cherokee Outlaw is a withdrawal leaving Brad with Sunrise Jenny who will exit box one, while in heat two Brad's greyhound Roxy Sunrise has been scratched leaving them with Charmaine's dog Suaalii in box one, a greyhound Brad is especially keen on tonight.

"From box one out of the 450m boxes I really like Suaalii's prospects,'' Brad said.

"His recent form might not look all that flash but he is ready to run a big race.

"Suaalii has had only four starts since December for a win and a second but even though he has drawn a particularly strong heat, I rate him an excellent hope.

The Fields' MDC entries - including the scratched pair - were all produced by Lika Jay Jay, who Brad purChased as a performed racer for a meagre $2000.

Lika Jay Jay won only four races but in 2015 won by 16 lengths at Wentworth Park in best of the night figures of 29.85.

"Like Jay Jay has been a wonderful producer,'' he said.

"Cherokee Outlaw is from her litter by Fernando Bale while Suaalii, Sunrise Jenny and Roxy Sunrise were sired by Dyna Double One.

"They have won 39 races while I have just broken in Lika Jay Jay's third litter, sired by Sennachie, and they show tremendous promise.''

The Maitland and Bathurst regional finals will be held next Monday with placegetters on those races advancing to the Million Dollar Chase semi-finals at Wentworth Park on April 29.
