Jodie Lord With Top Chances on Wednesday

By Jeff Collerson
JODIE Lord has trained 33 winners and 30 placegetters from her 105 starters this year and the Gunning trainer looks set to build on that impressive strike rate courtesy of her four powerful prospects competing at Wentworth Park on Wednesday night.

Three of her runners, Grim Madara (box six, race two), Doonan (box five, race five) and Lucky Dice (box one, race six) will be favourites while Cawbourne Magic, who has box two in race four, will be among the most favoured runners.

Lucky Dice (pictured), who will wear the red rug in Wednesday night's only 720m race, is perfectly boxed and looks the pick of Lord's strong lineup.

Lucky Dice has had a win and three placings from five Wentworth Park 720m outings looks particularly well positioned as In Your Time, in box two, is a wide runner and should give Lord's greyhound a clear run to the first corner.

"Box one is definitely where Lucky Dice wants to be,'' Lord said.

"With all the rain it has been difficult getting stayers fit enough to see out a solid 720m but I'm fortunate in having a testing straight track on my property.

"Despite the big wet I have been able to use that track all the time and I've even had a few Sydney trainers come down to utilise it.

"Grim Madara is a really good young dog and I think he will handle box six without any trouble because he runs in a straight line from the starting boxes to the first turn.

"Doonan has won each of his three Wentworth Park races and although he has not raced since winning on February 19 he is ready to win again.

"Cawbourne Magic's problem is that he does not have a lot of early pace, in fact I am building him up to have a crack at long distance racing.

"But he is nicely placed in box two and if he gets a clear run he will be hard to hold off in the run home.''

Cawbourne Magic's toughest opponent is likely to be Frank Hurst's Good Odds Emma, who possesses plenty of early dash and who is nicely positioned in box three.

Good Odds Emma and Cawbourne Magic are yet to win at Wentworth Park but each has broken the 30sec barrier there, with Good Odds Emma clocking 29.91 when second on February 23 and Cawbourne Magic posting 29.93 when runner-up on January 29.

Few greyhounds attempt a first-up Wentworth Park success after winning just a single provincial race but trainer Jason Magri believes Our Amelia can take the step up in Wednesday night's third event, a 520m fifth grade.

Our Amelia overcame a moderate start to lead at the first turn before bolting away with a 520m Dapto Maiden on February 24, clocking 29.84, fastest time of the night.

Forever Thankful, who has won three races at Wentworth Park, won the same meeting in 30.06, figures which emphasise the quality of Our Amelia's performance.

Her trainer Jason Magri believes Our Amelia is well positioned in box eight.

"Yeah, I think she likes it out there,'' Magri said.

"She is a talented bitch, she goes real good.''
