Wow Shows Them How It's Done

Wow is just two months away from being eligible for Masters races but the rising four year old gave his younger rivals a galloping lesson at Wentworth Park on Saturday, winning the 520m Free-For-All in the fastest time of the night.

Danielle Matic's May, 2018 whelping, notched his 10th Wentworth Park win in 20 appearances when he took the lead from Suzie's Face, who had posted a sizzling first split of 5.37, at the half-way mark.

Wow drifted up the track leaving the back straight and gave arch rival Ritza Donna a clear run along the rails, but went to the line powerfully to beat Ritza Donna by just under two lengths in 29.79.

After the race Danielle Matic's mother Ruth said: "I don't know why he does it, but Wow always runs up the track at the end of the back straight.

"He then cuts back towards the rails but I reckon he costs himself a couple of lengths every time he leaves the fence like that.''

Ritza Donna's trainer Mark Gatt said: "My bitch did not begin well enough and she could not give a dog as good as Wow that much start.''

Ashley Dwyer's Special Blend recorded second best 520m time of the night when he ran down Opinions to win a fourth and fifth grade race in 29.86, while Kempsey-trained Angry Blizzard produced his personal best Wentworth Park figures when he led throughout for a 29.93 winning romp in the Masters race.

Trainer Nathan Goodwin said: "He has just turned four but Angry Blizzard is going better than ever.

"Since he won from box one at Wentworth Park on February 12 he has run two good thirds at Albion Park and has won again tonight.

"If he stays in the same frame of mind in the weeks to come I'll certainly be aiming him for the Masters Meteor heat at Wentworth Park on April 27.''

Space Girl made a winning debut for her new trainer Michelle Sultana when led throughout for a 30.23 first up Wentworth Park win in a 520m fifth grade on Saturday.

Space Girl, owned by Lorraine Atchison, had recorded eight wins and seven seconds from 18 provincial starts before Saturday's race but had not started since mid-December.

"I got Space Girl around two months ago,'' Michelle Sultana said.

"She had not been out of the boxes at Wenty but I had given her a post-to-post hand-slip.

"Space Girl is the first greyhound I have trained for Lorraine Atchison.''

Training honours on Saturday were with Allan Ivers, who won consecutive races with Redeem Our Cash in 30.04 and that's greyhound's litter sister Redeem A Prize in 30.75, slowest time of the night.

Redeem Our Cash continued her remarkably consistent form as since January 1 she has now contested 10 Wentworth Park races for five wins and two seconds.

Murray's Way gave her owner Paul Murray a birthday gift when she flashed home to win Saturday night's opening event in 30.19, getting up to win by a neck from Devil Dodger.

After the race the winner's trainer George Borg said: "I didn't expect Paul to be here tonight because I understood he was going to be enjoying a dinner to celebrate his birthday.

"But he switched the festivities to a luncheon so he could get to Wenty so I'm glad Murray's Way did the right thing and gave him a nice gift.''
