Draw Turns Cup In Frank's Favour

By Jeff Collerson
Trainer Frank Hurst believes the rails draw could enable his bitch Ties That Bind to turn the tables on fastest qualifier Chase Me Honey when they reprise their heat duel in Friday's $40,000 to the winner Bathurst Cup final.

"Chase Me Honey was too good for Ties The Bind in their heat, she went super, but my bitch has gone from box seven to box one while Chase Me Honey has moved out from box one to box eight,'' Hurst said.

While Chase Me Honey began fast and led throughout last week, Ties That Bind was hampered when crossing to the rails at the first turn.

But Hurst refused to use that check as an excuse, saying "she got a little bump but the winner was too good."

Chase Me Honey covered the 520m last Monday in 29.70 with her kennelmate Analysing scoring from box two in 29.97 and the Jason Magri trained Where's Rocky coming out of box six to win in 29.89.

"Chase Me Honey can handle box eight and she has a good record from wide draws but I didn't want her on the extreme outside in the Cup final,'' trainer Michael Hardman said.

"It is a short run from the start to the first turn at Bathurst so Chase Me Honey will need to come out running to win.

"I believe Analysing, even though her heat winning time was slower, may be my better chance in the final.

"Analysing tends to use a bit of the track so if she pings the lids, as she can do, box five shouldn't worry her.''

Hardman considers Ties That Bind and Where's Rocky the toughest to beat.

Where's Rocky has a recent narrow win at WP over Zipping Kyrgios to his credit and has not been in better form.

Trainer Jason Magri said: "Before his Cup heat Where's Rocky had only had a post-to-post slip around Bathurst so last Monday was the first time he had been out of the 520m starting boxes there.

"I wasn't at all confident when he drew box six in his heat but he went really well, especially the way he pushed through on the back straight.

"Box three in the final suits him a lot more than box six because Where's Rocky is such a good railer."

National Derby winner Slingshot Hooks has a superb record at Bathurst but looks to have an awkward draw in box six.

His trainer Darren Sultana, enjoying a successful winning streak, also has Crocodile Vella in box four on Friday.

Zipping Tracker, who scored an impressive win on debut at Wentworth Park on Wednesday night, is described by Mark Gatt as the "spookiest" greyhound he has trained.

"He is terrified of people,'' Gatt said.

"Zipping Tracker has a big motor but has to be handled carefully because he is so shy.''

On Wednesday Zipping Tracker was slowly away and collided heavily going through the catching pen before hitting the front at the half-way mark.

He then cruised away to beat his litter sister and kennelmate Zipping Princess by nearly three lengths in 30.22, handy figures for an unraced maiden.
